Position: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MUSIC Assistant Director of Band/WOODWINDS
Department: Academic Affairs - Liberal Studies and Education Division
Reports To: Music Department Chair
Classification: Exempt
Core Responsibilities: The successful candidate will bring strong scholarship, teaching, and professional experience to the working of the Music Department. Teaching includes Applied Woodwinds, Woodwind Methods, General Core survey courses, and others according to departmental need and candidate expertise. Additional responsibilities include assistant directorship to the band program with rehearsal duties, student advisement, and program development.
Responsibilities:
Teach 4-5 classes (12-15) hours each semester.
Academic advising.
Active contributions to the development of the music curriculum and participation in departmental meetings, juries, recitals, and activities.
Participating in departmental, divisional, and institutional functions and events
Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.
Qualifications and Experience:
Masters Degree in Music (MM, ME, or MME) with proven ensemble conducting skills. Doctorate preferred.
K-12 experience as well as experience at small Liberal College and/or HBCU a plus
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with Blackboard Ultra, hybrid courses, and the ability to utilize innovative modalities for delivering course content.
The ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
Evidence of outstanding formal teaching or teaching potential is essential.
Some walking, climbing stairs, sitting, and standing for long period of time.
Ability to lift 10lbs. 1% of the time.
Some nights and weekends may be required.
