Position: Asst. Professor of Mass Communication and Media Studies
Department: Academic Affairs - Liberal Studies and Education Division
Reports to: Mass Communication Department Chair
The Department of Mass Communication at Lane College seeks an Assistant Professor to begin this upcoming academic year. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses including but not limited to Research Methods, Survey of Mass Communication, News Writing and Reporting, Online Journalism, Media Law and Ethics, Public Speaking.
Additional teaching may include courses as needed by the department and applicable to the candidate’s specialty area.
Participation/services in departmental, divisional, and institutional activities.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.
Terminal degree in Mass Communication, Media Arts or related field.
Master’s candidates with 2+ years of teaching experience and/or 3 + years of applied experience in professional media industry will be considered.
Candidates must provide evidence of scholarly or creative work
The ideal candidate will have experience in hands-on teaching and familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, Blackboard, hybrid/online courses, and the ability to utilize innovative modalities for delivering course content.
Some walking, climbing stairs, sitting, and standing for long period of time.
Ability to lift 10lbs. 1% of the time.
Some nights and weekends may be required.
