North America Commercial Multinational Underwriter – New York

Position Description:

The underwriter has responsibility to manage a Multinational renewal book of $2M and generate new business of approximately .5M annually.  The position will be responsible for driving profitable growth with New York City agents and brokers.  This underwriter will handle international package, auto and workers compensation, and focus on middle market customers.  Underwriting duties will include developing and negotiating price, coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals while actively identifying account rounding opportunities for other Chubb practices. This position must collaborate with other underwriters, operations, claims, marketing, and home office management as necessary.  The underwriter must implement and manage effective pricing and rate strategies that will produce profitability, book growth, and successful producer relations. We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated, results oriented with solid business and underwriting acumen.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Financial performance, including profit, growth, rate, retention, and identifying cross-sell opportunities, of a book of commercial business consisting of Multinational accounts.


• Underwrite and negotiate new lines and renewals on a commercial lines’ portfolio in Multinational business.


• Responsible for account solicitation, risk selection and analysis, pricing and sales of industry segment coverage products and services for new and existing customers.


• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to successfully produce, manage and grow our business.


• Maintains underwriting quality standards, including appropriate documentation relating to final underwriting decision.


• Ability to engage and influence key, internal stakeholders.


• Collaborates with field in educating brokers and agents on products, services, and underwriting standards as well as sales/marketing techniques. 


• Mostly local travel

Requirements:

• Knowledge of insurance industry


• Knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures


• Bachelors’ degree preferred or related experience


• 5+ years of Underwriting experience preferably in multinational or equivalent experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Controlled Master Programs with international P&C underwriting principles


• Solid knowledge of commercial underwriting with the ability to analyze risks, adhere to underwriting strategies, prioritize the gathering of underwriting data, and clearly communicate a well thought out underwriting approach.


• Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge with experience handling multinational business.


• Sales experience preferred.


• Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact at all levels of with both internal and external business partners to drive results.


• Strong written and oral communication skills.


• Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment.
