Overview:

The IT team at UNICOM Government, Inc. (UGI) solves problems in innovative and creative ways, and this role is an opportunity to have a big impact. You will join a team whose mission is to provide joy through frictionless support that is globally consistent. As an IT System Administrator, you will be responsible for mentoring our Help Desk Technicians on the technical functions of our on-premise systems, SaaS tools, and user endpoint devices. This includes being the technical link between our solutions engineering team and the infrastructure team. You will utilize your expertise to support users by removing technical obstacles in their way.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.

  • Strong "security first" advocacy and encouragement when creating and managing on-premise and cloud servers, Windows 2016/2019 server & Linux servers, Workstations, and related systems including installations and updates, as well as SaaS applications and services.

  • Enforce and configure security and RMF policies and processes.

  • Day-to-day operations and maintenance of data center infrastructure, including multiple VMware vSphere cluster w/ iSCSI storage, Redhat/CentOS, Ubuntu, Solaris, Windows Server, Cisco wireless, and Arista Networks.

  • Provide administrative support for Active Directory Federations Services, Active Directory, Public Key Infrastructure.

  • Monitor and respond to events related to systems performance and outages (tools include Veeam ONE, ELK, Nagios, CrowdStrike, Prometheus, among others).

  • Monitor backup/replication status and health and troubleshoot any exceptions to daily backups.

  • Assist IT management with project planning and execution of IT projects.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on project status and systems configuration

  • Support lab infrastructure including software and attached equipment.

  • Regularly monitor systems to identify potential indicators of malware or system failure.

  • Update and maintain antivirus solutions, anti-SPAM solutions, and web filtering lists.

  • Provision and configure software and hardware: printers, desktops/laptops, networking equipment.

  • Conduct training sessions for trainers as well as end-users.

  • Maintain an internal SharePoint with technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies.

Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field or equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum of 4 year's experience in Linux, Microsoft, VMware, or other network-related fields.

  • Experience with iSCSI SANS and Dell Equallogic, along with NetApp knowledge

  • Experience with scripting and writing/modifying code to improve monitoring or deployment in Python, Go, Perl, Java, C, and/or Shell.

  • Experience with scripting and automation tools such as Windows and Exchange Powershell.

  • Experience in Project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure and Office 365).

Travel Requirements:

Local travel between UGI locations may be necessary (up to 20%) depending upon business requirements.

Security Clearance:

There is currently no Security Clearance requirement; however, business needs may demand a clearance at a later date. Requirements for obtaining a U.S. government security clearance include, but are not limited to:


  • Able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered investigation.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must also be able to maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
