Valuation Actuary

We're actively seeking a talented Valuation Actuary to join our Statutory Valuation team in Aliso Viejo, CA. This role can be on-site or 100% remote.

As a Valuation Actuary, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by managing the US statutory financial reporting for individual life insurance business. While joining the Statutory Valuation team, you'll manage the process for reporting and validating Principal-based Reserves (PBR), prepare annual actuarial memorandums and coordinate with other actuarial teams in implementing PBR across the division. You will fill an existing role that sits on a team of five people in the Life Division. Your colleagues will include fellow actuaries and valuation professionals.

How you will make an impact:


  • Maintain and enhance the process for reporting and validating Principal-based Reserves (PBR)

  • Participate in Actuarial Transformation initiatives to improve and automate the entire end to end valuation process, including input data gathering, reserve calculations and financial reporting

  • Support conversion of valuation systems to Prophet

  • Perform analysis needed to determine appropriate actuarial assumptions for PBR

  • Assist in preparing annual actuarial memorandums and other actuarial reports for regulatory purposes under the direction of the Qualified Actuary

  • Coordinate with other actuarial teams in implementing PBR calculations across the division

  • Ensure PBR processes comply with both internal and regulatory governance standards

  • Enhance, develop, and maintain documentation on PBR calculation and reporting

  • Provide support as needed for industry-wide PBR working group projects

  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and requests supporting the Valuation area as needed

  • Maintain compliance with Pacific Life's Actuarial Student Program Guidelines by successfully passing exams and modules

The experience you will bring:


  • 4+ years actuarial experience

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, data science or related field

  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)

  • Experience working with life insurance products such as UL, IUL, VUL, Whole Life, and Term Life

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written)

  • Effective time management and multi-tasking skills


What will make you stand out:


  • Experience with actuarial modeling systems such as FIS Prophet and/or MG-ALFA

  • Database experience or programming experience a plus

  • Experience working with Principle Based Reserves (PBR)
