We're looking for a Field Technician to perform field service and repairs on late model Caterpillar equipment retrofitted to railroad equipment. You'll work independently driving in a company provided service truck to the customer's place of operations Monday thru Friday, but you'll always have the support of the entire Vancer team. The Field Technician will primarily work on electrical and hydraulic systems with some minor engine work. There will be a significant amount of training and job shadowing to get you ready for the challenge! We'll provide you with ongoing training and the latest technologies to be successful. This position will work out of our new Vancer shop location in Pasco, WA. There will be a significant amount of travel including some international travel, so you'll need a passport as well as a DOT medical card.
As a Field Technician, you can expect to:
Complete diagnostics, troubleshooting, and appropriate repairs and rebuilds on Caterpillar and other railroad specific heavy equipment.
Reference and interpret service, parts, and diagnostic software to determine problems/malfunctions and to verify repair specifications and parts needed.
Escalate unresolved issues to Technical Communicators for further research and assistance.
Accomplish repair by following parts ordering process, completing service reports, and giving appropriate verbal or written communication in email or service reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience:
Applicable degree/certification OR equivalent related experience/training
Hands-on experience with various types of systems and components (hydraulics, mechanical, pneumatic, power train, electronic, electrical, air and fuel systems, ac/dc electrical theory, HVAC, etc.)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to learn mechanical processes and procedures
Understanding of computer testing technologies
Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues
Ability to interpret and follow instructions and plans
Effective time management
