About the Job

Director, Corporate Development drives growth and diversification of FMI's non-biopharma external business partnership opportunities. The position is responsible for conducting initiatives to capitalize on development opportunities, including strategic partnerships, licensing opportunities, and mergers and acquisitions. In collaboration with the Global Portfolio Strategy team, the incumbent completes data analysis, market modelling, partnership development, and exploration into external business pursuits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate business opportunities from external sources and develop the realistic business cases for considering go/no-go decisions and valuations.


  • Screen potential deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, financial implications, and internal priorities.


  • Determine appropriate valuation and transaction structure for workflows and make recommendations to FMI's Executive Team.


  • Perform quantitative analysis, financial modeling, and market modelling to determine the business case of corporate transactions.


  • Together with cross-functional leaders, execute on new business opportunities that align with FMI's corporate strategy and oversee assigned opportunities through close collaboration with internal and external parties.


  • Support deals in collaboration with the broader Roche Group, including Roche Partnering and Roche M&A


  • Serve as the key point of contact for target company joint development agreements and opportunities with FMI, as they are identified and throughout entire transaction lifecycle.


  • Directly negotiate agreements on behalf of FMI.


  • Partner cross-functionally on large-scale and strategically relevant developments pertaining to acquisitions, licensing, equity investments and complex partnerships.


  • Travel approximately 25%, domestic and internationally to key industry conferences and networking events to identify opportunities that match FMI's strategy.


  • Partner with Global Portfolio Strategy team to provide input for strategic landscaping work and closing strategic gaps.


  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree


  • 10+ years of progressively responsible prior work experience within business development, corporate development, or similar function involving analysis and partnership building


  • 3+ years of experience partnering with external organizations and contract negotiation

    Preferred Qualifications



  • Graduate degree, such as an MBA or J.D., or MA or Ph.D., preferably in a mathematical, life science, data science, or business field


  • 5+ years of experience partnering with external organizations and contract negotiation


  • 3+ years of experience within any of the following industries: biotechnology, life science, healthcare, pharmaceutical, clinical diagnostics, private equity, investment banking, or consulting fields


  • Experience building models in a pricing, forecasting, financial analysis, or other capacity


  • Track record of effectively sourcing, negotiating, and structuring deals


  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining senior-level relationships with partner organizations


  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis, strategy, and project management


  • Business acumen and comfort dealing with ambiguity


  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills


  • Strategic thinker, intellectually curious, problem solver, process-improvement mindset, with a passion for transforming cancer care


  • A passion for technology and its implications for creating a better world


  • Excellent interpersonal skills including strong collaboration and communication skills with a variety of audiences (levels, functions, backgrounds)


  • Demonstrated self-sufficiency, creative problem solving, and ability to execute in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment


  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to develop cross-functional, trusting relationships across the business


  • Ability to travel 25%, internationally and domestically to partner meetings and major medical congresses
