Job Description:

We are seeking a Site Industrial Engineer for our Fort Smith, Arkansas location.

Measure and manage operational and financial performance of a self-contained value stream. Identify opportunities throughout the site and implement lean solutions to reduce waste, improve yield, and increase TRS while maximizing productivity, labor and equipment utilization. Lead initiatives to continuously improve value stream performance. Be the liaison between several different disciplines to ensure that necessary initiatives are beneficial and effective. Communicate and own reporting of site metrics to site, corporate, and global level associates.

What would be your key responsibilities?


  • Conduct and coordinate time studies and analysis to identify and quantify opportunities or shortfalls in the value stream and/or direct cost financial performance.

  • Be willing to stand alone on priorities that are best for the site by challenging the mind-set of associates and the current ways of working.

  • Lead site and business KPI based action plans for performance improvement.

  • Provide analysis and data on bottleneck capacity for each process function for evaluation of potential capacity constraints.

  • Utilize the 5 Principles when developing solutions to enhance processes/KPI's for the site.

  • Conduct and coordinate studies and analysis to identify and quantify process and product quality and/or capacity constraints and opportunities to increase throughput.

  • Utilize mathematical and/or statistical modelling techniques to identify problems and develop solution.

  • Develop proposed equipment layouts, operational designs and material flows, which impact direct cost elements with a vision toward achieving plant long-term objectives.

  • Interaction with central engineering team, technical and operation groups to ensure that operational needs are given full consideration when developing solutions.

  • Provide analytical support and resources to perform studies that verify the effectiveness of solutions implemented by site and corporate teams.

What are we looking for?


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or technical training with engineering emphasis.

  • 1-3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.

  • Must be willing to travel on occasion as requested, between 10-30%.

  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Project).

  • Strong analytical capability with ability to influence without authority.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with all levels of associates a must.

  • Able to create collaborative relationships while navigating complex challenges with associates.

  • Comprehensive understanding of lean methodology and its application to manufacturing environment.

  • In depth knowledge of Mars policies, objectives and organizational structure preferred.

  • Understanding of the change management and capital appropriations processes.

  • Demonstrated skills in managing risks for different manufacturing practices.

  • Knowledge of Mars quality systems with a customer focused mindset.

  • Action oriented with strong technical skills while dealing with a high level of ambiguity.

  • Will to drive for results by setting personal priorities as well as the site.

  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing, warehousing and engineering functions in a food processing/distribution facility.

  • Food Manufacturing experience and knowledge of food safety.

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
