The Ferring Research Institute (FRI) was established in San Diego, California in 1996. More than 70 people work at its state-of-the-art research facility located in the heart of the Southern California biopharmaceutical community.

Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Senior Scientist to join the Molecular Pharmacology group. This position will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to discover new leads for emerging and exciting biology and to contribute to a pipeline of differentiated therapeutics for unmet needs in Women's Health & Reproductive Medicine and Gastroenterology.

The Senior Scientist will be primarily responsible for the design, development, and implementation of in vitro assays for target validation and mechanistic pharmacology studies, enabling lead discovery and translational studies. The candidate will be required to work independently to develop high quality, accurate, and reproducible mechanistic assays in overexpressed systems, naive cell lines, primary cells and 3D cultures. The candidate will collaborate in a cross-functional team, across several groups within the Ferring organization fostering a culture of engagement and scientific rigor.

Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to the scientific management of projects by participating in drug discovery teams in collaboration with the Chemistry, Bioanalytical/ADME, In Vivo Pharmacology, Screening and Functional Genomics groups.

  • Create and advance concepts for new drug discovery projects

  • Develop and implement methodology to characterize target engagement of therapeutic molecules, as well as to identify relevant biomarkers

  • Investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of action of drug candidates and characterize signaling pathways of priority targets in relevant models

  • Manage relevant outsourcing activities to complement internal capacity

  • Participate in the global scientific community through attendance at scientific conferences and publication of novel research findings in peer-reviewed, high quality journals

Requirements:


  • PhD, postdoctoral experience and >5 years of industry experience in Pharmacology, Cellular Immunology or related field

  • Excellent molecular pharmacology skills, including molecular characterization of compounds

  • Experience with cell-based immune assays (cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, flow cytometry) highly preferred

  • Experience with rodent and human primary cells isolation and purification techniques highly preferred

  • Experience with laminar flow systems preferred

  • Experience in target engagement assays required, including biophysical and cellular techniques (nanoBRET, in-cell CETSA etc.)

  • Expertise in the development of biochemical assays and enzymology expertise preferred

  • Experience with 3D culture preferred

  • Excellent scientific ability demonstrated by a track record of scientific accomplishments through publications, patents, and invited presentations.

  • Experience and ability to work in collaborative interdisciplinary teams in a matrix environment

  • Strong leadership potential

  • Outstanding written and oral presentation capabilities.
