Job Description



The Expended Core Facility Recapitalization Department (ER) is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to support the >$1.5 billion Naval Spent Fuel Handling (NSFH) Facility construction project in Idaho. The focus of this project is to replace aging infrastructure that supports nuclear fuel processing. This individual will work with the Quality and Safety Oversight team and use his/her expertise in quality assurance requirements through surveillance of work and audits of compliance to project requirements..

The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for oversight of the project Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) subcontractor to ensure the NSFH Facility technical and quality requirements are met and that documentation and records are maintained to support facility commissioning and startup of operations. This position requires knowledge of quality assurance programs and practices applicable to a nuclear facility construction using strict requirements such as ASME NQA-1. The position requires frequent interaction with ER management, the EPCM, construction subcontractors, and the government. Participation in field surveillance of work and formal audits is required. The ability to work independently with limited supervision is a must.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

--Aid in scoping and identifying the application of QA requirements

--Provide support with oversight and assessment of project QA performance

- Conduct field surveillance of construction work to ensure requirements are met and documentation is developed

--Stop work if imminent danger or adverse environmental impact are present

--Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with work plans and relevant requirements

--Document deficiencies and provide follow up to validate implementation of corrective actions

--Participate in formal audits, including developing plans, conducting audits, and documenting findings in formal reports

--Prepare and participate in site inspections and government interfaces






Required Skills




Senior:


  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or

  • Master's degree in a degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or

  • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified or EDO and two years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or

  • Three years as SRE plus Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only) or SRE qualified and six years of experience

Principal:


  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or

  • Master's degree in a degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; or

  • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or

  • Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six years as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine year of experience
