POSITIONDESCRIPTION
Canadian Pacific Railway operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year. Within the Department of Engineering Operations, there are two facets component in Signals & Communications: Construction and Maintenance.
Signalman and Signal Maintainers work mostly alone on a specified assigned territory by the Supervisors where the job can occasionally be physically demanding.
Signalman and Signal Maintainers are primarily responsible for performing FRA regulatory test and inspection of the signals systems. They will also install, repair and maintain various equipment such as: signals, lights, switch machines, electrical switch locks, switch circuit controllers, as well as crossing warning devices.
Other general duties include cable locates, painting and housekeeping of signal housings & equipment; climb and troubleshoot signal structures and make electrical connections.
The role of Signal Maintainer is an important link between ensuring compliance with FRA regulations and customer satisfaction while achieving the safest most efficient railroad operations.
Activities by instruction and supervision of crew foreman:
Work Safe Practices
Comply with Company & Regulatory Rules and Policies
Digging, cable repair, housing keeping, assembly of signal equipment, wiring of signal equipment, pole line work.
Repair or replace damaged equipment.
Limited travel is required.
Test and verify correct operation of S&C systems and equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on all S&C apparatus
Make inspections and tests as required on each device
Report problems; failures or unsafe conditions.
Plan his/her own work and coordinate it with the work of others.
Ensure there is enough material on hand to permit work or repairs to be completed without undue delay.
Only make authorized corrections and modifications
POSITIONREQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be able to work outdoors and at times in remote locations and adverse weather condition. Work experience with heavy equipment such as a backhoe, trencher would be an asset.
Must have previous working knowledge of signaling systems and railroad signalman qualification.
Must have a valid driver's license.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
CP is looking for a qualified Signalman. Ifindividuals do not have prior Signalmanexperience then they would start as an Assistant Signalman andbe trained into the Signalman position.
Medical Requirements:
