Waste Technician/Production Operator

The Waste Technician/Production Operator is a basic skilled worker in environmental and waste handling. Has successfully completed job training and has demonstrated the ability to perform routine wastewater treatment, waste handling and waste shipping activities. Must understand and apply regulations relative to waste and water treatment.

Hours: Monday-Friday 1st shift mostly. Hours may vary depending on production needs.

Wage: $16.48 + per hour, depending on experience

Duties require the ability to interpret results of testing for accuracy, reasonableness, compliance with specifications, etc. and to perform problem-solving tasks. Ability to organize waste shipments, use proper labeling and complete manifests per DOT regulations. Ability to read, interpret and follow safety procedures including lockout/tagout and safe work permit processes. Ability to follow all EPA, DOT and ADEQ regulations involved in handling, storage and shipment of industrial waste. Must be thorough in acceptance of and willingness to reject waste, as to not allow products to leave the facility and contaminate the environment.

General duties include:


  • Treat waste water, obtain samples and laboratory results before discharging to the city.

  • Stage and label plant waste and schedule pick up by approved disposal vendors.

  • Shred pallets and maintain pallet shredder operations.

  • Load and unload liquid bulk products.

  • Complete assigned jobs in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Understand and follow operating procedures, company policies and regulatory policies.

  • Maintain good relationships with all areas of the plant.

  • Ensure all water and waste documentation is accurate and organized.

  • Maintain current certifications for Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator (CESQG) waste technician, Visible Emissions, and Hazmat DOT shipping.

  • Assure quality plant operations through a variety of plant audits.

  • Assist in Warehouse and Formulation Operations as needed. 

Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED

Required Qualifications & Experiences: 18 years or older and 6+ months of manufacturing experience. Must be able to lift 75+ lbs. routinely without assistance.

Preferred Qualifications & Experiences:1+ years of continuous prior experience in waste handling; computer skills a plus.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing, working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy machinery. The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.

At times, you may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms. Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty. Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive and collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends. At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required. The ability to perform these requirements is necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
