We are seeking a Registered Nurse to work on our 14-bed pediatric unit that specializes in the care of the medically complex child.


  • The nurses on this unit work very closely with a multidisciplinary team which includes Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, Surgeons, Case Managers, Social Workers and Child Life Specialists to coordinate a holistic plan of care for the patient and family.

  • Pediatric populations on this unit include children dependent on technology such as home ventilators and home dialysis as well as children dependent on tracheostomies.

  • The unit also specializes in the care of children with acute and chronic nephrology diseases, new diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, epilepsy and idiopathic/non-idiopathic scoliosis.

Education:

Preferred - Baccalaureate degree in nursing.

Work Experience:

Minimum - One (1) year relevant pediatric nursing experience or two (2) years of recent adult inpatient nursing experience.     

Preferred - One (1) year relevant pediatric nursing experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum - Registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin and CPR certification.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge regarding quality improvement and standards of care within practice area.

  • Experience in teaching patients and families.

  • Excellent communication skills.  Ability to effectively delegate and supervise the work of other nursing team members.

  • Relevant experience in pediatric hematology/oncology.

  • Based on unit needs, additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be required.

  • Demonstrates ability to use pediatric critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to provide developmentally appropriate patient and family centered care.

Physical Requirements:

Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule:

This is an Evening/Night position that includes variable (8) eight and (12) twelve-hour shifts. Weekend and holiday rotation required. Hours may vary based on operational needs of department.
