Title: EMS Engineer- 72201

Your Responsibilities

As an EMS Engineer for John Deere located in Horicon, WI, you will be primarily responsible for the development of engine management systems (EMS), along with external suppliers, for John Deere Riding Lawn Equipment and Utility Vehicles, as well as developing complex interfaces of embedded controllers with vehicle electrical systems.


  • Collaborate with engine and transmission component engineers, in order to jointly provide a seamless integration of complete powertrain solutions into vehicle electrical systems
  • Become the local expert in engine management systems, supporting engine and embedded electronics suppliers, engineering peers, factory automation, PV&V , quality, supply management, and program management
  • Apply engineering rigor in the development of hardware, software, engine calibrations, wire harnesses, electronic communication busses, sensors and actuators, while seeking to determine designs that will meet global product requirements optimizing for cost, quality, and performance
  • Develop and maintain system, component and software design requirements documents, working closely with and guiding outside suppliers
  • Collaborate with product verification & validation and vehicle design teams to create and execute validation plan activities including design reviews, DFMEA, simulations, lab tests, field tests, certification and compliance testing.

What Skills You Need


  • 3 or more years of experience in the development of embedded engine electronic hardware, software and calibrations for automotive, agriculture or other off-highway vehicle development experience.
  • 3 or more years of hands-on experience troubleshooting CAN bus and embedded electronic controls issues utilizing electronic instrumentation.
  • 3 or more years of experience with engine calibrations and real-time data interrogation using tools like INCA, CANoe or equivalent though CCP protocol or equivalent data acquisition interface.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively, working in multiple critical projects simultaneously.
  • Provide clear concise oral/written communication. Ability to collaborate, coordinate and assign work to others.
  • 3 or more years of experience in collaborating with external suppliers.
  • Ability to work off-shift hours, as needed, to support production during builds and meetings with overseas suppliers.

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Experience with wiring harnesses, sensors and actuators.
  • Experience in validation and verification of software in simulation environments such as HIL or benchtop stands.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with developing complex embedded electronic control systems.
  • Experience with processing and automating the analysis of large amounts of data utilizing MatLab scripts, MS Excel macros, Ncode software or equivalent.
  • Project management experience Experience communicating with suppliers of different countries and cultures.
  • Advanced training in additional engineering disciplines.

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
