Job Description

TLS US Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Preferred Location: US East Coast Region / United States (Remote)

Senior Manager, Software Engineering

We are looking for an experienced technologist with a balance of technical breadth and depth coupled with strong interpersonal and team leadership skills. As a hands-on solution architect and engineer, you will work directly with some of our most interesting clients and technology partners. The incumbent must be comfortable working at the intersection of technology and business, with the ability to link technology with measurable business value, and think strategically about TLScontact business, products, and technical challenges. The incumbent will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver our strategy to transform the business, build technical solutions used by millions of users every year, and develop integrations for strategic accounts. This position will report to the CIO of TLScontact. This position can be based anywhere in the US; some travel will be required in the future for face-to-face meetings and workshops.

Essential Functions:


  • Lead a high-performing TLS US Technology team-hire, train and retain engineers, architects, and managers, enable their individual career development and progression, set SMART performance objectives, lead by example and foster an environment of trust, laser-sharp focus on business priorities, innovation, cross-functional collaboration, quality, and growth.


  • Ensure the delivery of new products or services from the projects is to the appropriate levels of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the program plan


  • Manage third party contributions to the program as appropriate


  • Use metrics to track and predict progress and to drive continuous productivity and process improvement


  • Conduct regular retrospectives and process reviews


  • Assess project risks and mitigate them


  • Communicate status to both the product team and to executives


  • Run focused meetings and produce clear notes with decisions and action items


  • Coordinate interaction with other departments


  • Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, Containerization and Cloud are our technology practices at TLScontact. We expect the Solutions Architects to be broadly competent across these areas of technologies and able to go deep into some technologies to support the team on solving complex technical challenges.


  • The ideal candidate will possess technical leadership skills allowing them to oversee and guide a team of engineers. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to organize a software development practice, allowing to plan the implementation end-to-end of a software delivery, including the non-technical aspects such as quality, security and operational processes.


Additional Functions


  • Support the creation and measurement of quality programs and valuable analytics to support business and operational goals focusing on the software engineering domain


  • Support the creation and measurement of effective business continuity, and disaster recovery programs to meet the needs of the business


  • Support the creation and measurement of world class cost structure for TLS


  • Support the creation and measurement of KPIs to report monthly and quarterly to stakeholders


  • Support business peers (Sales, Operations, Human Resources, etc.) to improve our client and customer experience in a secure and compliant manner.


  • Support corporate governance and workforce management and training initiatives.


  • Comply with all company policies and procedures. Maintain a professional appearance and high energy work environment.


  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.


  • Demonstrate a flexible "can do" attitude in work place assignments.


  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Target Work Focus

The following is a general summary of the anticipated targeted work distribution for this position. It is not intended to be a definition of hours worked weekly/monthly as work assignments will vary to support the business. Rather it is an indication of the nature of work expected for successful execution of this position.

30% TLS US Technology Team Leadership. Provide leadership and global accountability for the US software development, architecture management, programs and projects, and, potentially other technology management capabilities.

30% TLS Technology Strategy Execution and Governance. Ensure strategic alignment across several technology domains through working with and taking direction from the Technology Leadership Team.

40% Individual Contributor, Software Architect and Engineer. This hands-on role requires individual contribution to initiatives in areas where the incumbent's software development, business and technology expertise can support TLS business objectives. It will include assessing business requirements, defining architectures, coding, deploying and supporting and optimizing software solutions. Personal and professional development to maintain currency on technology advances and the changing business climate will also be included within individual performer work.

Requirements


  • 15+ years of hands-on Software Engineering and team leadership experience


  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to get things done


  • Track of success in leading software engineering initiatives


  • Experience in building and leading engineering teams


  • Degree in Computer Science or other Engineering field


  • Experience with Java, PHP, Node.js, OpenShift desired


  • Experience in cloud migration/adaption initiatives, ideally with AWS


  • Experience with agile scrum process, DevOps, CI/CD, containerization desired


  • Experience working on US government projects desired


  • FedRAMP / AWS GovCloud experience desired


  • Working knowledge of IT security standards, e.g. NIST 800-53 desired


  • Experience working in distributed, ideally international, cross-cultural teams
