Department Information



Indiana University's Office of Collaborative Academic Programs (OCAP) seeks an Associate Director. OCAP is situated within the Office of Online Education (OOE), a university department reporting to the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs (OEVPUAA). As described in the University's Bicentennial Strategic Plan, OOE is responsible for protecting and advancing the academic integrity of an IU degree, facilitating collaborative opportunities presented by online education, and utilizing IU's scale, resources, reputation, and diversity of offerings to expand online education offerings to students located in Indiana, as well as nationally and internationally. OOE is charged with the responsibility for managing growth and development of online degree and certificate programs that to date annually deliver more than 5,500 online course sections for an enrollment in excess of 31,000 students.


Alongside OOE, OCAP facilitates engagement and coordination of collaborative degree program creation amongst participating IU campuses. OCAP also works closely with chancellors, faculty, and administrators to oversee, encourage and provide tools for the assurance and maintenance of high quality online and distance education courses and programs at an institutional level.



Job Summary



The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Vice President for University Academic Affairs and Director of the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs. The Associate Director works with faculty, administrators and staff across all IU campuses to support the smooth and timely development, implementation and assessment of collaborative online degree programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitates collaboration and meaningful communication with faculty and campus administration regarding curriculum, policy, implementation and delivery of online programs. Identifies barriers and resource needs. Develops Transfer Single-Articulation Pathways and other agreements covering student transfer credit for online programs in collaboration with the University Transfer Office. Supports and provides guidance for program review and assessment of online courses for quality and compliance, including application of the Quality Matters rubric. Works with OOE staff to develop, refine and enforce policies and procedures for online program development, and to ensure effective and efficient operation of online programs and services across all IU campuses.
  • Directs and manages the development of curriculum for individual online degrees, and provides design and development support to ensure course quality and application of best practices. Prepares and circulates for review and approval Memorandums of Agreement governing the processes for identifying new degrees and collaborators, developing curricula, and implementing programs.
  • Ensures newly proposed online degrees are compliant with all federal, state and accreditor regulations for collaborative academic programs and online education at IU, especially with state mandates on transfer (STGEC, SAP, Military Second Service, Credential Engine). Prepares Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) new degree proposal forms. Manages collaborative degree proposals through institutional degree approval processes at all levels (school, campus, university), as well as accreditors ICHE and the Higher Learning Commission.
  • Represents OCAP and OOE in interactions and collaborations with other university offices including: University Academic Affairs, Advanced College Project, Centers for Teaching and Learning, e-Learning and Design Services, and University Student Services and Systems. Represents IU, OCAP, and OOE to external stakeholders such as the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission, as well as at national conferences, seminars, and professional development events.



Required Qualifications




Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience in a related field and one year of management experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications



Master's degree and/or Doctorate. Experience with IU academic programs, including degree and course development systems. Have collaborative experiences with academic leaders, university administration, and faculty in the development and delivery of innovative, high-quality online courses and programs. Proven management ability and outstanding leadership skills, demonstrated through a succession of increasingly responsible positions. Instructional experience in a classroom setting. The ability to deliver presentations to audiences of varying levels.



Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.


Incumbent will frequently lead and/or contribute to meetings in virtual collaborative platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Occasional travel to attend meetings on all IU campuses, as well as meetings with community partners is required. At times, overnight travel may be necessary.
