Paralegal/Trust & Estate Settlement Specialist at LPL Financial in Cleveland, Ohio

Job Description:

The Paralegal/Trust & Estate Settlement Specialist will be part of our innovative, entrepreneurial, high-performing team helping advisors be highly competitive in the industry and poised to help them grow by delivering independent financial advice. PTC has a corporate value of creating a more client-centric culture and this role is pivotal to driving that agenda forward and elevating the service levels of clients and advisors by leading the trust and estate settlement process as well as the coordination of legal filings associated with the acceptance of new business. This role is responsible for correspondence with courts, attorneys, estate executors and personal representatives throughout the probate and/or settlement process. In addition, this professional will be responsible for coordinating with internal and external legal counsel on various court filings as they relate to administrative matters associated with trust succession and acceptance.

Trust Paralegal duties will include:



  • Administrative and operational duties associated with many facets of the Trust and Estate Settlement Process:



    • Gathering full inventory of estate and trust assets


    • Retitling bank accounts and other personal assets.


    • Valuing and appraising marketable securities and illiquid assets as of date of death


    • Assisting in the sale of real and personal property


    • Paying specific bequests


    • Coordinate documentation for income and estate tax returns


    • Preparing distribution schedules to fund beneficiary distributions and sub-trusts




  • Shepherd complex processes to clear contingencies related to acceptance of trust accounts


  • Collaborate with internal and external parties, consisting mostly of advisors, attorneys, and the outgoing trustee on trust matters.


  • Partnering with Trust Officers on time sensitive matters relating to trust beneficiaries; our primary clients


  • Other duties as assigned.


This individual will interact with other PTC professionals as well as other internal and external professional advisors.

Education & Experience

An ideal Candidate should have a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a paralegal role in the trust, legal, brokerage, investment management or accounting fields. The ideal candidate would also possess a Paralegal Degree and possess 2-3 years of experience with trust and estate settlements. Candidate should be a detail oriented, self-starter with excellent legal, analytical, customer service and communication skills.

  • Strong paralegal acumen related to trusts and estates


  • Very detail oriented and exceptionally organized


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to tactfully and professionally interact with grieving families


  • General knowledge of the administrative and operational components of trusts and estates


  • Ability to work in a fast paced, complex environment and maintain own deadlines


  • Ability to multi-task


  • Listening - ability to listen actively and attentively
