Job Description

The Maintenance Technician (1st Shift) will be based in Austin, TX. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic automated manufacturing systems, including electro-mechanical control systems, robotic systems, programmable logic controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and belt and chain drive conveyor systems.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…                                                                                                       


  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic automated manufacturing systems;

  • Including electro-mechanical control systems, robotic systems, programmable logic controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and belt and chain drive conveyor systems.

  • Through troubleshooting, identifies machine malfunctions and isolates the failure mechanism.

  • Repairs the failure mechanism in the most cost-effective manner.

  • Performs preventive maintenance at specified intervals and schedules.

  • Performs calibrations and re-qualifications on equipment at specified intervals and schedules.

  • Assists process technicians and engineers with the installation and removal of process equipment.

  • Analyzes and implements corrective action reports and process tracking mechanisms.

  • Records times and problems in equipment logs.

  • Provides daily equipment functioning activity information.

  • Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.

  • Disassembles instruments and equipment and inspects components for defects.

  • Aligns, repairs, replaces and balances component parts and circuitry.

  • Devises formulas to solve problems in measurements and calibrations.

  • Assists engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording and indicating instruments and equipment.

  • May require travel to other Flex sites or equipment vendors’ locations.

  • Highest level may perform both software and hardware maintenance.

  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic and mechanical equipment in a timely manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively within the team, to customers, and to management.

  • Ability to adapt to handle multiple assignments and projects and work to complete them within specified time frame.  

  • Must have well-developed problem solving skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.

  • Must have good understanding of PLC systems and ability to create PLC –program code and program documentation.  Should have good practical experience in PLC – Systems for robotics, process or material handling work.

  • Typically requires an Associate’s Degree in related field, military technical training or equivalent education and training. Typically requires 4 years of related experience and/or trade knowledge.

  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills. Demonstrates detailed functional knowledge and may lead process. Has awareness of new technologies/techniques. Requires the ability to utilize complicated drawings and specifications, and train others.

  • Demonstrates technical skills. Demonstrates basic functional and/or process knowledge and participates in process.

  • Has awareness of Flex technologies /techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maintenance manuals and engineering sketches, and utilize complicated drawings and specifications, advanced mathematics and a variety of precision measuring instruments.

  • Able to read, comprehend, and interpret complex instructions. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees, leads, manufacturing support and supervisors of the organization.

  • Use of the following tools may be required:

    • Electronic Assembly: schematics, PCB loading, mechanical assembly

    • Cables: crimping, harness assembly, connector/wire soldering, cable prepping

    • Testing: oscilloscope, cable & harness testing, trouble shooting, component testing, logic analyzer

    • Machine Operations: automatic component insertion equipment, surface mount insertion equipment, wave soldering

    • Mechanical & Electrical Tools: power air guns, taps & dies, alignment tools, measuring tools

    • Office Skills: data entry, software
