Ohio Department of Public Safety - Alum Creek Facility

Under general direction of the Administrative Officer 1, performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, troubleshooting & repairs on Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Buildings systems; performs carpentry, (e.g., doors, floors, walls, windows, stairways, partitions, modular furniture); performs electrical (e.g., light fixtures, electrical devices, motors, circuits, and electrical components of heating & cooling systems, door access systems, CCTV system and fans); performs plumbing (e.g., water and sewer lines, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks); performs painting tasks and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC). Operates power & hand tools in making repairs to various systems and equipment; builds, reconfigures and changes work stations and installs and repositions floor boxes; performs tasks related to landscaping and grounds care.

On a continuous basis, inspects building & equipment for needed repairs or replacements & performs systematic & routine preventive maintenance; performs daily, weekly, monthly and other periodic inspections of building systems using check lists as a guide; documents findings such as readings that are out of specification, noisy machinery, or other out of ordinary observations; provides the Administrative Officer 1 with observations and suggest possible causes and solutions.

Receives information and assignments from a computer aided maintenance program or from Facility Administrator; provides data for facilities management software programs (i.e., work order program, custom spreadsheets, and other ODPS data processing programs); required to document information and activities in databases or in electronic templates; studies information related to safety, ODPS policies and procedures, and facility training programs and training mandated by regulatory authorities (i.e., employee right-to-know, life safety, industrial truck training, hand tool usage, etc.); Perform exterior grounds keeping duties; Remove snow & ice from parking lot & sidewalks areas using snow removal equipment (e.g. pickup truck with plow, snow blower, & manual hand shovel); Operate state vehicle to transport various equipment, tools, parts, materials & supplies (e.g. electrical wires, light bulbs, paint, shovel) to various locations; May work during non-standard hours for specific tasks (e.g., building systems malfunctions, etc.); May report to other ODPS locations; Act as a backup for transportation services at the Shipley Facility (i.e. operate the Shipley shuttle bus during morning &/or afternoon hours when needed); Perform other related duties as assigned.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment); in accordance with section 124.11 (B) (2) of revised code, Director Of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
