JOB PURPOSE


Implement a hands-on knife skills training program for new employees within a specific area of a pork facility harvesting 22,500 animals per day. Coach, support and follow up with employees on the effective knife sharpening skills, including efficient trimming and boning techniques necessary to produce products to company specifications while ensuring employees work safely in assigned roles.


RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS


    • Lead classroom training sessions for general knife skills, use of personal protective equipment, sharpening techniques and steel maintenance including a straight steel and mousetrap

  • Evaluate trainee progress and maintain records of trainees' progress and achievements

  • Communicate and collaborate with all levels of management within the organization


  • Mentor and communicate effectively with all employees, provide direction, instructions and feedback based on experience level of employee

  • Follow up and provide appropriate feedback and recognition based on level of performance

  • Complete understanding of primal cuts specific to departmental lines

  • Knowledge and understanding of personal protective equipment required for knife positions

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE



  • High school diploma required and some college preferred with course work in human resources, business administration/management, education or other related field.

  • Work experience in a manufacturing, food service, retail or related field. Meat industry experience a plus

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite

  • English required. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

  • Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) a plus
