Job Description:

Federal Signal has an immediate opening for an Inside Sales Coordinator based at our University Park, Illinois facility.  This position will be responsible for generating sales for assigned accounts through proactive outreach. This role will also act as an important link in ensuring that inside and outside sales representatives and customers are aligned in a professional manner through all stages of the sales process, including but not limited to: quoting, account data capture, direct customer service, and close interaction with other support departments such as credit, marketing and production.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Promote and sell products and services to assigned accounts. Explain promotional offers.

  • Generate and direct sales leads to appropriate member of sales team.

  • Maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities utilizing CRM.

  • Responsible for management of assigned key accounts.

  • Consults with customers regarding the correct product mix based upon customer need, desired effect, technology involved, and product/service application.

  • Interface daily with customers, 3rdparty sales representatives and Federal Signal Sales personnel via telephone, email, chat and electronic data interface (EDI). 

  • Continually acquires and builds knowledge on products/services to provide customer assistance in selection of our product lines.

  • Maintain a high level of Customer Experience, grow/build upon existing relationships and foster new ones with end users, distributors, Manufacturer Representatives, and Regional Sales Managers.

  • Respond to emails, phone calls, and other forms of correspondence in a timely fashion.

  • Proactively create opportunities for new business.

  • Maintains order entry function through receiving orders, checking model numbers and other data for accuracy, and enters orders in the operating system.

  • Answer questions regarding product, warranties, and other logistics.

  • Expedites past due orders and long lead times to satisfy customer needs.

  • Reviews return material authorizations for accuracy and secures necessary approvals.

  • Proactively communicate with customers to address any issues regarding orders.

  • Perform other duties, assignments and special projects as required.  

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required or equivalent work experience. 

  • 3-5 years' experience in sales, customer service, project coordination and/or direct support of sales team.

  • Detail and relationship oriented; gets along well as part of a team.

  • Strong multi-tasking ability.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of constituents including sales representatives, sales managers, customers, customer service and operations.

  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.

  • Strong people skills, follow up skills, and ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Ability to work productively, efficiently and effectively with initiative and drive under tight timelines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Ability to use CRM system, access company sales records, JD Edwards look-up skills, and Business Intelligence tools.

  • Skilled in consultative sales with customers.

  • E-Commerce and online chat knowledge highly preferred.
