We are looking for compassionate and motivated Personal Care Assistants/Paraprofessionals to join our team of professionals who make a positive difference in student's lives every day. Position Summary: A Paraprofessional's role is to increase the quality of instruction to students by performing any instructional or non-instructional tasks required, under the supervision of a certified professional (teacher, therapist, principal, and supervisor). Paraprofessionals are not responsible for the design, direction or evaluation of the teaching/learning process.

1. Assists the assigned student on and off the bus at arrival and departure times.

2. Know the whereabouts of the student assigned to you at all times. Report missing children to the office immediately.

3. Assists and/or monitors the assigned student with the removal of putting on/off wraps.

4. Follow procedures outlined in student positive behavior support plan to reinforce and or modify behavior. Facilitates personal care services as needed to assist the student

with daily living activities necessary for comfort and well-being (when indicated on Student's IEP).

5. Performs duties such as locking and unlocking braces in order to facilitate changes in position; assist children in the bathroom and assists with lifting non-ambulatory students, as necessary. Assists, in cases of emergencies, where the nurse may not be immediately available, all possible measures should be taken to assist the child until help arrives. This includes notifying the principal or other building administrator immediately.

6. Assists with the supervision of the assigned student during play, recess, and recreational activities.

7. Assists with feeding the assigned student if he/she is unable to feed him/herself. In addition, may collect lunch money, submit lunch count information and supervise students in the Cafeteria as needed.

8. Performs reinforcement instructional services as delegated by the teacher, including reinforcing activities in the visual, auditory, motor and cognitive areas.

9. Attends training as required for performance of job. This may include, but is not limited to, CPI, CPR, First Aid, Dysphasia, and Universal Precautions.

10. Accompanies the teacher and assigned student on field trips or community based instruction during the school day.

11. Follows and reinforces the student's behavior plan as instructed by the classroom teacher.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma, required.

2. Associate's Degree in Child Development or related field or successfully passing the ParaPro exam by a score of 162 or higher is preferred.

3. Training in Crisis Intervention preferred.

4. CPR/First Aid Certified preferred.

5. Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.

6. Experience working in an educational setting preferred.

7. Ability to work as part of the educational team while supporting the individual needs of the student as identified on the student's Individual Education Program (IEP).

8. Strong interpersonal skills.

9. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

10. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

Additional Requirements:

1. Current Act 114, Act 34 and Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of employment date).

3. Successful completion of CPR, 1st Aid, CCM and additional tranings as applicable.
