Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing all plant systems and equipment.  Safely and effectively performs routine and non-routine maintenance on plant equipment utilizing preventive and predictive measures.

Essential Duties:


  • Participate on daily meetings with all maintenance team.

  • Makes daily workplace inspections and pre-shift equipment inspections.

  • Disassembles machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.

  • Repairs and replaces broken or malfunctioning parts of machinery and equipment.

  • Observes and tests the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions using meters, gauges, and/or other testing devices.

  • Reads and interprets work orders and equipment manuals. 

  • Read and understand blueprints and hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.

  • Completes work orders by recording work performed, parts used and amount of time taken for maintenance or repair.

  • Cleans, lubricates and adjusts parts of equipment and machinery.

  • Uses cutting torches, welding, power tools, and instruments used in maintenance activities.

  • Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, plum bobs, straight edges and laser alignment tool.

  • Follows all plant safety policies and uses personal protective equipment as required.

  • Be on call as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • 2+ years’ experience in material handling, preventative maintenance, and equipment repair in a mechanical/industrial related job.

  • Heavy industry experience is a plus.

  • Must be familiar with the use of welding/cutting equipment, mechanical, and pneumatic hand and power tools, meters, and test equipment.

  • Must be able to return to work during emergency situations and to perform work on a scheduled stand-by assignment.  Ability and willingness to work nights and days during outages and/or for emergency purposes.

  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English language.

  • Ability to read operations and maintenance manuals, drawings, blueprints and schematics.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Knowledge of Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Proficiency in basic math skills-adding, subtracting, division, multiplication, averaging, percentages, etc.

  • Must have dependable transportation.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:


  • Cement Manufacturing -- Knowledge of raw materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining, production, shipping and packaging of cement.

  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment used, machines and tools, including their uses, repair of, and maintenance.

  • Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of the technology used and manufacturing of cement. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of cement.

  • Environmental – Knowledge of proper allocation of waste material.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:


  • Ability to safely work in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.

  • Ability to perform tasks that include frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing equipment, and working within confined spaces to access and inspect equipment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
