Job Description:

The Vice President of Product Development role is a leadership position on the division executive team. This role carries responsibility as a people manager with management level direct reports and requires functional expertise in one or more specific R&D disciplines such as: Product Development, Architecture, Quality Assurance, cross industry and/or cross product lines. The role is accountable for multiple direct reports, ongoing and new projects, multiple products within a vertical specific portfolio, processes, and strategic direction within the R&D team. This role interacts internally and externally with division executive level management, including business leadership, product management, hosting infrastructure, sales, and professional services. The described interaction will at times require negotiation of extremely critical matters where the perfect outcome is what is best for the business overall. The VP of Product Development will set the specific vision and strategy initiatives for the development group(s) within the business unit(s) for all R&D activity within the Field Service portfolio. The expectations for the VP of Product Development is that they become recognized as an influential leader inspiring action, coordinating multiple simultaneous initiatives while curating the intellectual property of the division and company.

Position will be located in our Provo, UT office.

Reporting Relationships:


  • Reports to the Business Unit President

  • Directly reporting up to this position can be Product Management, Product Development, Quality Assurance, Architecture, Information Design and User Experience teams

Essential Functions:


  • People Management – interpersonal leadership, coaching, feedback, career development, performance assessments, objective setting, business goal alignment, hiring and disciplinary action as required.

  • Leadership – Communication within R&D, leadership peers, as well as leadership across Business, conflict resolution, meeting management, change management, adheres to ECi Solutions Leadership Standards

  • Methodology – Enable quality focused, predictable, and effective R&D processes (scrum, sdlc, accountability)

  • Project management – Accountable for deliverables, estimates, planning, follow up and tracking, metrics, effectively handling ambiguous tasks and assignments.

  • Functional Expertise – Contribute to Individual area of expertise, project work, standards.

  • Allocation of people and resources to projects

  • Represent ECi Solutions externally and is seen as a thought leader both internally and externally in selected area of expertise.

  • Propose and report on department performance to metrics and commitments.

  • Recognize and reward performance.

  • Investigate root cause and implement corrective action when necessary.

  • Exemplify and mentor other leaders on the ECi Solutions Leadership Standards

  • Must have expert knowledge and understanding of multiple sub functions cross industry and/or cross product lines.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills founded on the ECi Solutions Core Values – motivating others by setting an example, inspiring, and creating leaders that deliver an extraordinary customer experience.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree preferred in Computer Science (or related field)

  • 12+ years of experience in full life-cycle software development

  • 8+ years of leadership responsibility

  • People Management Skills - interpersonal leadership, coaching, feedback, career development, performance assessments, objective setting, business goal alignment, hiring & disciplinary action as required.

  • Leadership Skills - Communication within Engineering and peers across Business, conflict resolution, meeting management, change management, adheres to ECi Solutions Leadership Standards

  • Department level business goal development and alignment to higher level goals

  • Significant track record of partnering with human resources on performance management, performance improvement plans, terminations, and personal / medical leave.

  • Ability to predict and manage (i.e.: make and meet commitments)

  • Align departments, teams and project objectives to ECi Solutions strategic goals.

  • Stimulate department cooperation to successfully complete their goals and objectives.

  • Coach and inspire directors, managers and senior technicians to deliver extraordinary customer experience.

  • Foster a high-performance environment with a diverse set of resources

  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, continuous process improvement, and an adaptive development environment.

  • Resolve cross department conflicts with a cool head, finesse and focus on business goals.

  • Objective analysis and resolution of complex people / customer / and business issues

  • Ability to effectively convey defined vision on the department level.

  • Ability to manage through significant change that majorly impacts the department.

  • Grasp significance of a large user install base across international geography.

Special Requirements:


  • Occasional travel domestically and internationally.

  • Familiar with management of outsourced development & quality assurance assets.

  • Previous experience with cloud distributed solutions.

  • Understand value of grooming and retirement of technical debt.
