Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering (MatEng) is seeking a Materials Engineer II. This position will be based out of the Glendale AZ facility, report to a Technical Manager at the Clearwater FL facility, and support both local design and manufacturing activities as well as global Aero MatEng activities. This is a challenging, multi-dimensional role that requires the individual to multitask across several concurrent task assignments.
The position will operate within a broader MatEng team working in partnership with experienced MPE engineers located at the Glendale and Clearwater facilities. The individual will function as a growing technical leader and resource in providing specialized MPE expertise in the review and deployment of MPE requirements, technical design support, specifications and Aero flow-downs in support of multiple site-based programs.
The successful candidate will have the responsibility to ensure designs for assigned programs meet customer requirements. The individual will interact with both internal and external technical experts and function as the primary technical interface for materials and process-related issues for specific programs.
The candidate will be supporting materials engineering tasks related to the design, manufacture and test of both electronic systems (guidance and navigation, displays, communication) and mechanical systems (reaction wheel assemblies, controlled moment gyros, pointing systems) for Defense, Space and Commercial Aerospace products.
Responsibilities will include the review of customer- and Honeywell-generated requirements to ensure cost effective approaches and to verify performance and environmental requirements are met, development of material and process evaluation test plans, participation and interaction with various technical teams, development and execution of self-directed technical projects, pursuit of project funding, and coordination and execution of technical tasks with team members until completion. The successful candidate will interface with multiple functional groups and multiple engineering levels across Aero and within our customer community.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop in expertise in one or more core process areas such as conformal coatings, adhesives and adhesive bonding, mechanical assembly, cable and wire harness assemblies, soldering, cleaning, and may extend into other core areas such as metal finishing, castings, welding, brazing, composites, paints, and manufacture of electromechanical components as developing assignments require.
The successful candidate will also support technical team discussions, develop analytical test plans, review test reports for accuracy, generate / write technical reports and participate in / support failure analysis, develop and execute self-directed technical projects, and execute technical tasks with team members until completion.
YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or Chemistry
3 years of experience working directly in Materials and Process Engineering design and applications roles supporting high reliability hardware
3 years direct experience with design and applications of polymers, coatings and adhesives
US Citizenship required - no dual citizenship allowed
Direct experience in aerospace design and manufacturing environment
Direct experience with military/aerospace specifications
Direct experience with solder metallurgy, printed board assembly, cable and wire harness assembly, chemical processes (paint / plating), or composites
Hands-on experience with polymers testing
Strong focus on problem solving
Ability to work as both a team member and a task leader
Ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and information
Ability to multi-task work assignments
Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
Ability to self-correct problems and work independently with minimal work direction
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint
