Full Time non-exempt position
The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
DUTIES INCLUDE: The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
Reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsible for road grading, erosion control, maintenance and repair activities at the Gunnery Range Center (GRC) Inspects power centers, electrical switching stations for damage and deterioration.
Performs quarterly inspection of underground cable right of-ways for erosion, cable exposure, and other potential problems.
Inspects concrete culverts and flumes to ensure the structures are clear of vegetation and debris.
Reads and interprets grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and is experienced with setting elevation and lay-out repair work.
Operates and maintains heavy equipment, including road graders, bulldozers, back hoes, cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, rollers, scrapers, tractors, dump trucks and pick-up trucks.
Experienced with lubricating, adjusting, and making emergency repairs to equipment.
Experience working erosion control and grounds construction a plus.
Ability to drive a dump truck and operate heavy equipment is required.
Electrical and/or vehicle maintenance experience is a plus.
Flexible, can adapt to changing situations, reliable, timeliness.
Conditions will vary. Most work will be outdoors with temperature variations. Work will consist of 30% standing, 30% walking, 15% climbing in/out of vehicles, 5% stooping, 10% reaching, 10% lifting. Ability to perform under rugged conditions and items up to 35 lbs alone, over 35lbs with assistance. Normal work hours are Monday - Friday 0600 - 1430. Possibility of rotating shifts.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Can operate lawn mowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, shop equipment (such as circular saws, grinders, drill press, etc.)
Productive without supervision.
Ability to cross train into other areas.
Ability to follow directions.
Team player, works well with others.
U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Current Alabama Driver License CDL A with HAZMAT is required; Must be able to be insured through Company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of your work employment.
Must pass pre-employment Drug Screen
