About this Opportunity
As a Finisher - Utility, you'll apply finish to Herman Miller manufactured product in a way that meets or exceeds job-related expectations for safety, quality, reliability, and environmental management.


What You'll Do
You'll have opportunities to speak up, solve problems, lead others, and be an owner every day asyou . . .
  • Adjust the application process, application equipment, and materials being applied to achieve target appearance as specifiedby application inspection tools, color targets, production "step offs," and verbal instruction.
  • Apply stain and finish material as specified by Herman Miller drawings and routings.
  • Clean, set up, and adjust pumps, agitators, regulators, spray guns, and wiping materials.
  • Mix, agitate, and dispense finish material.
  • Perform daily housekeeping duties which are specified as part of the daily Production Painter activity. These items include, but are not limited to: sweeping, wiping, anddiscarding waste.
  • Read and interpret Herman Miller drawings and routings asthey relate to product being manufactured, raw materials used to construct product, and required coatings to be applied.
  • Review, monitor, and share feedback with the Work Team Leader, Production Operator, and support staff as it relates to the "normal function" of process. Details include, but are not limited to: raw material inventory, oven temperatures, lighting, air make-ups, pollution control equipment, etc.
  • Set up, clean, and/or replace booth filters, band support rollers, part carriers/saw horses, etc., which are specified as part of daily Production Painter activity.
  • Use application process monitoring equipment which includes, but is not limited to: film thickness gauges, gloss meters, viscosity cups, stop watches, graduated measuring cups, air cap gauges, temperature sensors, calipers, and tape measures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have . . .
  • Ahigh school diploma or equivalent.
  • Powder or liquid paint experience (preferred).
  • Color acuity that meets or exceeds requirements specified in Corporate Work Instruction 016.
  • The ability to read, understand, communicate, and interpret written and verbal instructions, apply manufacturer recommendations, manufacturing work instructions, work documentation, policies, practices, etc., in the English language.
  • The ability to perform the physical aspects of the job (lifting, bending, wiping, andstanding in place) for periods of up to 10 or 12 hours.
  • An ability and desire to learn finishing technology.
  • The ability and willingness to work with paint products.
  • The ability to work cooperatively within the team as well as with members of other teams to meet goals.
  • A willingness to adapt to a continually changing environment.
  • A commitment to team success through reliable attendance.
  • The ability to make decisions based on a given set of criteria.
  • The ability to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodations.
