Job Description:

Primary Functions:

The purpose of this job is to assist the 3rd Shift Maintenance Mechanic in all work in order to learn the skills of a Class A Maintenance Mechanic. Work involves performing some activities of lesser skills independently such as; tune up of automobiles, general maintenance of building structures, replacement of worn out parts, etc. But, also includes working hand-in-hand with trained mechanics in diagnosing and repairing machinery and equipment.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment Used:

Micrometer, calipers, feeler gauges, timing light, flow and amp meters, compression gauges, torque wrench, hammer, wrenches, socket set, power drill, air tools, steam cleaner, come-along, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.

Materials Used:

Solvents, grease, glue, oil, gas, diesel fuel, wire, tubing, hose, machine parts, spark plugs, hydraulic fluid, electrical wire, etc

Supervision Received:

Close Supervision from upper level mechanics and foreman of superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment, and the production of high-quality products.

Daily:


  • Give Assistance to Maintenance Mechanics in the performance of the following duties:

  • Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble.

  • Dismantle machines and reassemble if necessary

  • Replace broken and work out parts

  • Order replacement parts if required

  • Make all necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation

  • Keep in good repair the building structures and equipment including electrical switches, fixtures, motors, occasional painting or touching up structures or equipment, repairing plumbing fixtures, etc.

  • Repair, rebuild, or overhaul internal combustion engines including replacement of piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors, etc.

  • Overhaul transmissions, repair fuel injection, lighting and ignition systems.

  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed by Supervisor

Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked

Job Specifications or Qualifications

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: None

Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is required

Experience: Three to six months previous experience as a maintenance mechanic or similar role

Supervisory Experience: None
