The opportunity

Our Maintenance Program & Planning team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business. We are seeking a Maintenance Program Manager with excellent conflict resolution, problem-solving, and facilitation skills to leading and developing a team of Field Work Planners in order to develop, plan, and optimize multi-year work plans for U.S. Gas Operations. These work plans enable and enhance the delivery of safe, reliable, and compliant service across the U.S. footprint. This position works collaboratively with U.S. Gas Operations, U.S. Gas Pipeline Projects, U.S. Commercial Operations, and the Technical Center to develop both short-term and long-term executable work plans to determine resource requirements as well as to integrate these work plans with other functions.

The Maintenance Program Manager (MPM) is responsible for the work management process within a U.S. Gas Operations Region, reports directly to the Manager of Maintenance Program and Planning and is part of the Operations Strategy and Planning group within U.S. Gas Operations, Technical Services organization.


This position may be filled in Charleston, WV, Washington, PA, or Lafayette, LA depending on the location of the successful candidate.

What you'll do


  • Lead and manage a team of Field Work Planners including but not limited to hiring, training, supervising, development, coaching and mentoring as well as effectively and timely delivering difficult messages and feedback

  • Be responsible for the development, planning and optimization of work plans within a U.S. Gas Operations Regions. Frequent and on-going communication and collaboration is required with all levels of field operations leadership

  • Align work plans with the specific assets and geographical challenges within a respective U.S. Gas Operations Region

  • Develop and provide training to the broader organization for new and existing tools and processes, collaborating with the Technical Center for enhancements to SAP and Work Manager

  • Develop, manage and report on intermediate to multi-year work plans (90 days to 3 years), including all work impacting the field technician and optimizing the work plan with other functional areas (i.e. Gas Control and U.S. Gas Projects)

  • Develop, analyze and report on key performance indicators related to the execution of the work plans and impacts to resource demand forecasts, present opportunities for improvement to gain alignment and implement those opportunities

  • Collaborate with other departments when necessary to enable the most effective and efficient work programs for the facilities, areas, region and all of USGO Maintenance Program Planning

  • Work across organizational boundaries with all departments and designated Manager and Directors to resolve work planning conflicts and acquire and/or distribute resources across facilities to support the completion of highest priority work

  • Manage maintenance planning projects, including leading project meetings, document issues, action items, user requirements, or deliverables, update project schedules, plans and communications, etc.

  • Identify and track respective project issues, resolve issues where possible or escalate to higher management when needed; assess and manage risks and drive mitigation activities

  • Evaluate deliverables prepared by FWP team to ensure work meets specifications and maintains a high level of quality

  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings (internal and external to the Maintenance Planning Organization) in order to provide applicable updates and information

  • Present / communicate complex information to varying internal and external audiences using appropriate tools and presentation options

  • Other tasks as required


Minimum Qualifications


  • Graduation from a 2 or 3 year technical school program or Associate degree

  • 10 or more years of related leadership and planning experience

  • Proven leader of successful teams

  • Understanding of gas operations and field maintenance practices - field experience preferred

  • Prioritization skills and the ability to manage numerous and complex processes simultaneously

  • A critical thinker with excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Developed computer skills supported by use of software applications, including, SAP, MS Project, Excel, Word, Power BI, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems

  • A self-starter with a proven track record for working with minimal supervision and able to execute work independently

  • Demonstrated skillin delegation, negotiation, influencing, and consensus building

  • Able to effectively manage the team remotely as they are geographically dispersed across the respective regional operational area in the US

  • Demonstrated facilitation skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to develop and deliver clear, concise messages to the appropriate audience at all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated team player, with strong adaptability and the ability work well in a collaborative environment

  • Strong business acumen, the ability to analyze and communicate trends and the drive and commitment to achieve goals and business results

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the natural gas (and the overall energy) industry and specialized expertise in some of the following: work planning concepts/models, computer applications, operations, risk management, and integration, etc.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; works independently and makes informed and collaborative decisions

  • Ability to perform with superior service, reflecting a positive company image while sustaining a positive attitude with those you interact with, always going above and beyond to help others out, regardless of their position or department

This position requires candidates to


  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home

  • Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function
