Summary: The Manager, Creative is responsible for the success of a diverse team of visual designers charged with improving how students and learning coaches experience K12 curriculum/content through design. The Creative Manager reports to the Creative Director and manages visual design production, both new and legacy, while supporting across design management including print/ebook and audio/video production. The Creative Manager supports delivery of courses on time and on budget, with appropriate level of quality and with an inclusion mindset. In this role, the manager communicates and integrates the company mission, vision and values to provide direction for the team and ensures highly visual, interactive work that always puts the user first.

  • Lead and facilitate a multi-disciplinary team of direct reports and non-direct reports through each stage of the content design process with clear creative directions and an inclusive mindset;

  • Use customer-driven insights and agile methodologies to deliver elegant and delightful customer experiences;

  • Craft project approaches that challenge the status quo and lead to highly valuable, impactful and unified content design solutions across the K-12 course catalog;

  • Promote cross team collaboration and multi-disciplinary growth with visual designers, audio and video specialists, print and ebook designers, UX designers, instructional designers, interaction designers, and media editors to ensure K-12 courses come together as a cohesive, visually appealing and accessible experience;

  • Partner with product managers and course owners to influence product design;

  • Partner with executives, leaders, and other stakeholders to define smart strategies that align business and customer needs, including those within underserved populations;

  • Translate business requirements into visual concepts and prototypes;

  • Actively collaborate with co-managers to support director and build a multi-disciplinary team that can flex between projects and courses;

  • Analyze production processes to identify opportunities to increase cost efficiencies and improvements;

  • Anticipate and resolve technical issues and production details;

  • Manage outsourced work with vendors, communicating and integrating K12 vision and design into deliverables;

  • Bring a renewed attention to detail, enthusiasm, creativity, and a desire to work hard and contribute to the content/curriculum design under tight deadlines;

  • Balance mentoring capabilities with a willingness to jump in and execute on project deliverables.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 5-10 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Minimum Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in design related field AND

  • Five (5) years of experience designing digital products for multi-channel services AND

  • Three (3) years of experience with team leadership or management OR

  • Combination of design related education and experience, which may include:


Certificates and Licenses: None required.


OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Proven experience as manager or in a relevant role.

  • Experience in developing diverse and inclusive interactive learning products including both software and materials in the areas of educational, professional, or consumer products;

  • Visual and graphic experience including photography, illustrations, print, ebook, video, audio and/or designing experiences;

  • Consultative and collaborative experience;

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency; Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Ability to travel 5% of the time, as needed

  • Ability to clear required background check


Desired Qualifications:



  • Management experience in Ed-Tech or related field

  • Ability to manage and support all aspects of design production, including visual design, print, ebook, audio, video

  • This is a home-based position. This position is open to residents of, and may be performed remotely from Washington, D.C., and from any state except Colorado.
