Bioskills Lab Technician
The Bioskills Lab Technician (Lab Tech) maintains the scheduling, inventory management, proper handling of cadaveric specimens, and onsite coordination of surgical training courses, product development labs, VSP workshops, and other lab uses. Additionally, this position is responsible for the sterile processing of orthopedic implants and instrumentation used both in the field and in the lab, as well as the disinfection status of the lab. They follow established procedures to perform the routine tasks to maintain the bioskills training facility, while adhering to health and safety procedures and regulations at all times.
Order required tissue specimens for on- and off-site cadaveric needs.
Comprehensive preparation, set-up, and clean-up for onsite bioskills labs.
Follow AATB, OSHA, specimen provider, and Acumed|OsteoMed protocols for cadaveric specimen management from procurement to disposition.
Coordinate scheduling of courses, labs, workshops, and maintenance days with applicable Acumed|OsteoMed staff and vendors.
Ensure all personnel adhere to proper safety and personal protective equipment protocols.
Clean and sterilize Acumed|OsteoMed demo and prototype product trays, instrumentation, and lab equipment following sterile process techniques and OSHA guidelines.
Clean and disinfect lab surfaces, including floors, tabletops, stools, and lab equipment.
Manage inventory of surgical instruments, personal protective gear (PPE), and disposable lab supplies; order and restock supplies as needed.
Maintain documentation of lab equipment maintenance and inspections.
Coordinate biohazardous waste disposal and specimen disposition with applicable vendors.
Responsible for continuous cleanliness and presentability of the bioskills lab space and changing area.
Assist Marketing Materials as needed.
Provide off-site event support to Medical Education as needed.
Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; 4-year degree preferred.
Coursework in biology, anatomy, kinesiology, chemistry, etc. preferred.
Experience in event logistics, project coordination, lab management, or similar field preferred.
Experience engaging in high-profile customer interactions.
Medical laboratory, clean room, or sterile process competency a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to troubleshoot computer hardware and Windows-based programs and apps.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required for interacting with customers and coworkers.
Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time and multi-task.
Ability to work with/maintain effective relationships with outside vendors and suppliers.
Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to follow health and safety procedures and regulations.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate laboratory materials and resources.
With limited exceptions, incumbent will be required to obtain hospital-required credentials, including the following: OR Protocol Training, Bloodborne Pathogens Training, National Background check, Product/Service Training, HIPAA Training, MMR, Hep B Vaccinations, TB Skin Test, Varicella, Influenza, General Expectations & Hospital Safety, Government Watch List, and Sign-off on General Policies.
