Floor Worker, Production Operator Position - Starting pay =$27.27/hr - 120 Day probationary Period

Sonoco Products hires new production employees into the entry level position (Floor Worker) in a union line of progression and from there they can work their way into various other positions within the mill. The Floor Worker position is an integral part of the Sonoco Products operation in Sumner, WA which is an industrial paper manufacturing facility. This is a 100% recycled paper mill, producing various grades of paperboard. This facility operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.

Floor workers provide assistance to the operation where needed. They have regular daily duties and also help address the challenges of the day. Floor workers are also trained at various other positions in the mill and will serve as vacation and training relief to our other production employees until their seniority permits them to successfully bid into other positions. The work is fast-paced, physically demanding and requires multi-tasking. Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds, stay on your feet for hours at a time, bend over, climb ladders, stairs, and work as directed.

Someone in this position must be able to work: weekdays & nights, weekends and holidays on a 12-hour rotating shifts (two 12 hour shifts on Days then two 12 hour shifts on Nights & then 4 days off). Shifts are currently 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM & 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Overtime will be required at times. Hearing protection and personal protective equipment, provided by the company, is required as some jobs include exposure to noise, heat, dust, and fumes.

Applicants will be required to complete the following:

* A high school diploma, GED or equivalent - required

* Complete a structured panel interview and a tour of the facility

* Drug screen

* Reference and background check

The following experience and skills are desired:

* High school or college level math and chemistry

* Experience working in an industrial/manufacturing environment

* Knowledge of OSHA/WSHA safety regulations such as Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, and the proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

* Previous heavy equipment operation experience. Front loader, bobcat, Fork lift, etc.

* Prior experience working in shipping/logistics/warehouse/etc.

* Previous shift work/shift rotation, including weekends, night shift, and 12+ hour shifts.

Pay rate is per the collective bargaining agreement between Sonoco Products Company and the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers (AWPPW local 28). $27.27/hr

The probationary period takes place during the first 120 days of employment with Sonoco. Performance reviews will occur every 30 days during probationary period. Pay rate starts at $27.27/hr and increases as you move up the union line of progression.

Within 30 days, new hires must join the AWPPW Local 28 Union and pay Union dues. In addition, an excellent benefit package is available to the employee and his/her family (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k). The workers hired for this position will be regular, full-time union employees, following the completion of the probationary period as stated in the collective bargaining agreement.
