Job Description



The Manufacturing Engineer is the technical lead for Operations and Manufacturing for both internal and external manufacturing and product projects. This includes supplier identification, development, and problem resolution. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations and to develop and facilitate efficient processes and products to assure all production revenue, cost, and quality objectives are achieved. The manufacturing engineer should be manufacturing's driving force for continuous improvement and product transfers from site to site to level load the manufacturing within the organization.







Duties & Responsibilities




  • Lead product transfers between sites of the business through creation of process/product work instructions, video recordings of the process, detailing/updating work instructions with operator tribal knowledge and testing the processes at the receiving site with golden assets from the sending site

  • Plans, designs and develops manufacturing tooling, machinery and capital equipment

  • Monitor performance of equipment, machines and tools and corrects equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues

  • Develops manufacturing processes to achieve defined quality and rate goals, including operator training

  • Develops and leads Lean manufacturing activities and continuous improvement projects

  • Develops Lean Manufacturing cells, Kanbans, and balanced lines to maximize efficiencies and to reduce waste and cycle times

  • Develops automated processes including paperless assembly instructions

  • Prepare process, procedure, and equipment preventative maintenance documentation

  • Leads root cause investigation and corrective actions using 5 Why's and 8D techniques

  • Identifies and measures process inconsistencies and develops corrective action and continuous improvement plans with applicable personnel to mitigate process variability and to drive factory improvements throughout all product lines

  • Assists in new product development, concurrent engineering, and influencing new product development to effect the most efficient design and transition of new products from engineering to operations

  • Assist and/or lead manufacturing process, inspection, or test yield and failure investigations of existing production

  • Leads cost analysis and/ or improvement projects for new and existing products

  • Ability to act as a technical lead on projects of a complex nature and provides manufacturing engineering expertise for design to cost solutions, and design for manufacturing guidelines

  • Evaluates and determines cost savings for design changed, local or global sourcing changes, material change, and other process improvement opportunities

  • Develops time studies, cost estimating, and Basis of Estimate (BoE) generation

  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with all Company policies and procedures

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:




  • Strong strategic business, quality and continuous improvement background.

  • Strong customer relationships skills

  • Knowledge of assembly/test processes used for RF/microwave assemblies and antennas

  • Working knowledge of Root Cause/Corrective Action tools

  • Experience with SPC/Lean/5S

  • Track record of managing effective QMS, including internal audits, CARS, ICARs

  • Experience with Stage-Gate processes and Integrated Product Teams

  • Experienced with Contract Review/Contract Flowdowns

  • Experience with Supplier Management/Approved Supplier Lists

  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, and reassign priorities

  • Ability to solve complex problems

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Ability to think strategically and develop strategic plans and translate to tactical actions

  • Ability to lead and work in cross-functional multi-cultural teams

  • Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 pounds

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time between sites


Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline


Experience:2+ years in a manufacturing environment


Travel:75% for the first 3 months, roughly 25% thereafter


Security: U.S. Person required (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident) and ability to obtain security clearance preferred
