As Cornell University's online learning unit, eCornell delivers online professional certificate courses to individuals and organizations around the world. Courses are personally developed by Cornell faculty with expertise in a wide range of topics, including data analytics, management, marketing, human resources, leadership, and STEM. Students learn in an interactive, small cohort format to gain skills they can immediately apply in their organizations, while earning a professional certificate from Cornell University. eCornell has offered online learning courses and certificate programs for 15 years.

The Executive Education Programs Director leads and grows a dynamic team of Program Managers & Coordinators who provide event planning and in-person/online services to ensure the successful delivery of in-person and online executive education programs. These programs, which are led by Cornell University faculty and held at various high-profile locations around the globe, provide business, labor, political, and cultural leaders with educational and professional development opportunities. This position contributes to the strategic direction by developing programs and priorities, formulating and implementing policies and procedures throughout the department, overseeing budget and fiscal management for each program delivery, and identifying, initiating, and implementing new opportunities in external education.

In addition to managing the team of Program Managers & Coordinators, the Executive Education Programs Director will cultivate relationships with External Education Operations and Enterprise Partnerships, while leading the implementation and delivery of blended programs which include online facilitated and on-demand courses, symposiums, and other virtual live and in-person programming. Responsibilities include managing and assigning workforce for a complex and variable schedule of events and related assignments, performing capacity planning based on event sales pipeline, developing business processes for rapid and thorough project execution, and leading the team as they perform program enrollment management. The Executive Education Programs Director will hold the team accountable for maintaining accurate records. This role will utilize and analyze data to address gaps and opportunities, assess compliance, change strategy accordingly, and prepare a variety of comprehensive reports for senior leadership.The Executive Education Programs Director may also serve as the lead host for key custom or open enrollment executive education programs given the strategic importance of these clients/programs.

This position will report to the VP, Program Delivery and will work closely with External Education stakeholders including Cornell educators and academic leadership, program operations, product management, student support, and partner sales to continue the development, planning, implementation and strategy of programs that will help ensure our external education partners and program participants have a positive experience and are successful in the external education courses and programs.

What you'll do:


  • Oversee +$8M in budgets for individual programs and across the team; maintain familiarity with established contracts to ensure programs are aligned with client expectations.


  • Lead collaboration with Product Management, Marketing, Enrollment, and Group Sales to ensure the programs meet design requirements and succeed in attracting qualified participants.


  • Provide workforce optimization to delegate project assignments, task management, and personnel management of the Program Coordinator team.


  • Formulate and implement administrative systems, policies and procedures; strategic planning; establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff, industry executives, and academic partners.


  • Duties include making time-critical program management decisions impacting program staffing and faculty as well as participant support issues.


  • Create assessments plans and establish success and quality metrics for engagement management and event/program delivery.


  • Build develop, and grow a team of Program Managers & Coordinators to support the program pipeline in key locations around North America and beyond.


  • Hire and onboard additional Program team members as needed.


  • Oversee all project management aspects of the planning of events for onsite sessions.


  • Cultivate relationships, negotiate, and establish agreements with the Statler Hotel and other event centers for onsite sessions.


  • Collaborate with course operations and student support for program implementations and ongoing program support.


  • Oversee the development of budgeting and marketing for the launch of new programs/courses.


  • Provide reporting of external education and open enrollment program delivery and support.


  • Develop and manage processes that provide enrollment assistance to prospective participants and students.


  • Develop expertise in our software to improve processes and utilize data for decision making: Salesforce (CRM), Canvas (LMS), and Destiny (SIS).


What we need:


  • Master's degree in relevant discipline and five to seven years managing complex events, external education programs and/or partner relationships, engagements in the hospitality or education space, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Three years team management experience with budget tracking and reporting responsibilities.


  • Familiarity with or experience working in an academic setting.


  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills. Tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.


  • Attention to detail and positive customer service attitude.


  • Successful experience as both an independent and team player are critical. Ability to present a strong service orientation.


  • Expertise with common office productivity suites and operating systems.


  • Exposure to Salesforce, Student Information Systems and Marketing Automation tools is a plus.


  • Ability to travel for client on-site trainings as needed to either Cornell campus locations (Ithaca, NYC) and domestic/international locations.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University's decision to limit the number of on-campus employees, the successful applicant will be asked to perform this role remotely at a location of their choice in the United States for a limited time, only until the University can permit more employees to work on campus. Once the University permits more employees to work on campus, the successful applicant will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although they may be permitted to perform a portion of their work remotely.

The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
