Job Description Summary

The Los Angeles Times has an opening for a talented and energetic Sports photo editor. The primary duty of the job is to work with our photo staff and the Sports department to create smart, compelling visual content for all platforms. This person will help provide vision and direction for our Sports content. This temporary position is expected to last 11 months.
Start date July 11, 2021 through June 11, 2022.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Generate and develop ideas for sophisticated visuals that surprise and inspire our readers


• Edit and publish still images for both print and online


• Work closely with photographers, section editors, reporters and designers


• Create photo galleries for online products and support social media post that promotes the team’s work

Requirements:

• Minimum of three years of experience as a photo editor


• Maintain high level of professionalism at all time


• Strong photo editing skills


• Excellent news judgment 


• Expertise in technical skills including proficiency in Photoshop  


• Highly organized and able to work on simultaneous projects


• Excellent communicator who works well in a team environment


• Works well under pressure, able to multitask and produce high quality work in a deadline-driven environment


• Strong mentoring and collaborative skills


• Extensively skilled at problem solving 


• Knowledge of ethics, photographic usage, and copyright issues      


• May appear on TV and radio on behalf of the L.A. Times and represent the organization at conferences, seminars, professional meetings and employer-sponsored events

Times staff is currently working remotely, but when we return to the newsroom this position will be based in El Segundo, Calif. Occasional weekend and night shifts are expected.
