JOB PURPOSE

This position supports Thompson’s mission by planning, organizing, and developing the overall operation of the environmental services department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards and guidelines along with assuring the highest degree of quality guest care is maintained at all times.  The incumbent will supervise 10 to 15 full-time environmental services laborers in a union environment.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES





































Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and special event hours. 



Responsible for effective workforce planning to respond to emergency and unusual needs of the buildings and campus. Develops regular staff schedule.



Utilizes independent judgment and decision making to plan, prioritize, and shift responsibilities in a fast paced and changing environment.



Participates in the recruitment and staff selection process. Interviews candidates and makes hiring recommendations. Makes hiring and firing decisions with the approval of upper management.



Conducts staff performance reviews and facilitates disciplinary performance meetings with staff.



Assigns established work areas and/or project duties to subordinate staff and evaluates their work performances; Maintains a high level of cleanliness in assigned areas by managing and assisting staff. 



Assigns equipment to staff; monitors daily equipment use, cleaning and maintenance. 



Provides and monitors individual guidance and motivation to staff



Participates in facility Quality Assurance Program as required



Ensures that all equipment is clean and professional in appearance at all times.



Operates company vehicles that include but are not limited to DOT vehicles, pickup trucks, golf carts, and box carts.  Additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Maintains good attendance and punctuality as required.

  • As necessary, is available for additional hours, on-call hours, and late, overnight, or weekend emergency call hours.

  • Follow all rules and policies pertaining to conduct, behavior, and performance while on duty. Such rules and policies are contained in the TFS Employee Handbook, the CBA, or distributed directly by the local management team.

  • Alerts supervisor to problems.

  • Has adequate knowledge and/or skills to deliver results.

  • Keeps abreast of technical knowledge, outside developments, and trends to maintain skills in the field and perform effectively.


 


EXPERIENCE, REQUIREMENTS, and QUALIFICATIONS



  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence. Ability to obtain DOT certification immediately upon hire.

  • Fluent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, & Excel); Proficient capability to operate I-Phone

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with extreme weather fluctuations.

  • Bilingual, Spanish-English (preferred)

EDUCATION



  • Ability to read and write English to understand road and traffic signs, written instructions, and other documents.

  • High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) College Degree (preferred).

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS


On rare occasions, may travel to other TFS locations to assist with facilities support.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


This position is physically demanding. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, pull, push, climb ladders, twist, and walk for a minimum of three hours on the campus terrain. Possess the ability to lift at least 50 lbs. using safe lifting techniques.


WORKING CONDITIONS


This position operates on a university campus with exposure to waste, hazardous materials, wide-ranging outdoor weather conditions, stairs, sidewalks, etc.  Work may be performed at all times and inside of various campus buildings where lighting and ventilation may be inadequate. Work is also performed on campus grounds and parking lots.
