As part of 3D Systems' design team, the Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer will participate in the conceptualization, development, and documentation of new and improved 3D printing systems. Applicants should have a sound intuitive understanding of the physical world, experience modelling and designing complex electromechanical products, strong academic and work references, and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate would be capable of acting as the technical lead for a complex system and have the ability work across engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate cross functional requirements communication and optimization with software, electrical teams and other mechanical subsystems
Develop design concepts that satisfy the technical requirements
Develop complex models to predict performance (FEA, Thermal, CFD)
Create systems models to identify critical-to-function parameters and determine sensitivity to these parameters
Validation of subsystem performance to specification via test
Coordinate concurrent development by engaging with industrial design, manufacturing, and service to ensure their requirements are comprehended early in the design process
Work with safety and regulatory disciplines to ensure the designs meet all requirements and are compliant at product launch
Education & Training:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, MS in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
Experience:
At least 10 years of relevant experience in product development
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proven self-starter, good interpersonal and time management skills, and ability to work in a team environment with minimal direction
Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization
Ability to assimilate data and other input from many sources to draw conclusion, make decisions, and summarize
Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling required. Experience with Solidworks 2016 a plus.
Excellent PC skills including word processing and spreadsheets a must
Demonstrated skill in FEA, Thermal Analysis, and CFD preferred
Working knowledge of electromechanical design, firmware and system software preferred
Demonstrated skill in state space design of digital control systems a plus
Process development and structured problem solving experience a plus
