Job Description and Responsibilities:

Coherent Inc. is a manufacturer and supplier of state-of-the-art high-powered precision electro-optical components and laser based solutions for medical, scientific and commercial applications. Our Laser products are used in a range of applications, including microelectronics, scientific research and government programs, OEM components and instrumentation, and materials processing markets.

We are seeking a Fiber Equipment Maintenance Technician in our East Granby, CT facility. This role is responsible for performing the on-site installation, training, and servicing of leading edge fiber manufacturing equipment. This position will play an important role in serving as a company liaison with the equipment vendors on technical and operational levels. In addition, this position will work closely with the Process Engineering Team as well as the R&D Team. The Fiber Equipment Maintenance Technician will:


  • Perform the onsite installation, training, preventative maintenance, upgrade and repair of our complex fiber manufacturing equipment

  • Diagnose and trouble shoot equipment issues through statistical analysis and evaluation of product reliability

  • Test, tune, and adjust equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.

  • Advise management regarding equipment requirements, equipment performance, and suggestions for equipment improvements.

  • Report spare part requirements

Education and Work Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Associate's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR significant hands-on experience in a Service/Equipment Engineering role

  • Problem solving skills to be able to troubleshoot electronic, electro-optical, electrical, & mechanical problems

Desired Qualifications:


  • Hands-on experience with PLC controlled machines

  • Ability to work closely with a team as well as independently

  • Excellent written and verbal communications

  • Command of written and spoken English

  • Computer literate
