POSITION PURPOSE:
The Floating Laborer may work in logging, road construction or the shop, however this role will primarily work with road construction. This position is designed to assist crews with a variety of tasks. This is a temporary (up to 6 months), full-time position, based out of our Camp 1 facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)
A Floating Laborer must be able to perform all functions to accomplish the primary purpose of the job.
General Duties

Maintain a good attitude, work well with others, and have a good safety record.
Must be able to safely operate a power saw.
Must be alert to potential hazards and respond appropriately.
Must maintain regular attendance.
Have the ability to make decisions with time constraints and the ability to set priorities in work assignments.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Must have the ability to work in an environment with constant interruptions.
Must be able to work occasionally on rough, steep, uneven ground.
Must be able to perform minor mechanical tasks safely.
Must wear all required safety equipment and comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Road Construction Duties (primary area of focus for this role)

General laborer activities, such as ditch cleaning, hauling construction materials, and removing debris.
Must be able to haul materials on small trailers.
Assist Equipment Operators in culvert and other structure installations.

Shop Duties

General laborer activities such as, equipment cleaning, housekeeping, assisting with basic maintenance tasks, and delivering parts.
Basic understanding of a maintenance operation.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
Ability to use tools (i.e. shovel, hand/power tools, etc.)

Logging Duties

General Laborer activities such as, cleaning equipment and hauling materials.
Assist in Yarder setup; organize the landing, prepping work area
Assist with splicing and stringing lines on the yarder.
For safety, understand "whistle" sequences.
Follow HCP and FPA rules and regulations.
Operate a chainsaw as needed.
Assist operators in performing daily maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess valid Washington State Driver's license.
Experience working around heavy equipment and/or a maintenance environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is located in Shelton, WA.
Works primarily (90%+) of the time in the field under varying topography and climatic extremes.
Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep rugged, densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time.
Must have the ability to see distance and detail with accuracy.
Must have ability to work independently and without immediate supervision in remote areas.
Works in conditions that may expose employee wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites.
Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times.
Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with Green Diamond.
This position may be exposed to pesticides.
This position is a Physical and Mental Requirement Classification 4.
