Description

The Program Leader, Corporate Health Services reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Program Leader is responsible for providing planning, support, and overall coordination of the employee health and safety program for the health system. This position reports to the Manager of Workforce Health & Safety and functions within the division of Human Resources. This role coordinates and leads regional work by identifying, analyzing, and managing the occupational health and employee safety issues for Northwestern Medicine. The Program Leader also promotes system-wide awareness of health, safety, or environmental hazards, conducts system-wide safety and occupational health training, participates in hazard surveillance, performs risk assessments, and initiates action to assure timely resolution of identified hazards or unsafe work practice. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong and positive working relationships with all contacts throughout the health system. This role interacts with regulatory and external agencies and participates in regulatory inspections/surveys.

The Program Leader has the authority to take immediate corrective action whenever conditions exist that may pose acute threat to life or health or damage to equipment and buildings.

Responsibilities:


  • Routinely monitors employee injury data for a designated division, department, or service line. Meets with designated leadership and staff routinely to develop and recommend measures for assuring safe practice/behavior.

  • Recognizes and anticipates hazardous or unsafe practices. Identifies solutions (training, alternative products, change of practice) when unsafe behaviors or potential for injury is present.

  • Provides professional and consultative support (i.e. professional advice, recommendations, evaluations, inspections, development, or hands-on assistance) to assure that safe work practices, procedures, and policies are in compliance with best practice, in addition to, all pertinent regulatory, accreditation, and licensure standards.

  • Enforces compliance with safe practice, policies, and regulatory requirements related to occupational health and safety

  • Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

  • Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates the continuous improvement of NMHC's occupational health and employee safety programs and initiatives.

  • Coordinates collection, compilation and reporting data from resources within NMHC, as necessary, to effectively track metrics related to occupational health and employee safety.

  • Maintains accurate documentation related to NMHC's occupational health and employee safety programs (i.e. Employee Injury Reports, OSHA Injury Logs, Safety Data Sheets, training records, etc).

  • Promotes occupational health and employee safety activities by actively participating in various hospital and system-wide committees, implementation teams, and other task force teams as assigned.

  • Participates in regulatory processes, surveys, inspections as needed.

Additional Functions:


  • Maintaining confidentiality of employee and/or patient information.

  • Keeps current on legislation, regulatory changes, code changes, maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in areas of specialty.

  • Sensitive to time and budget constraints.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:


  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health, environmental health, healthcare administration, healthcare management, public health, or related field.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft: Word, Excel, Power Point, Project

  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, demonstrated analysis and problem solving skills, excellent oral and communication skills, demonstrated ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with peers and constituents at all levels of the organization.

Preferred:


  • Certified Hospital Safety Professional (CHSP)

  • Master's degree in Health Administration, Public health, Business preferred; required in place of work experience.

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, DOT, EPA, NFPA, and OSHA standards and codes

  • Knowledge or experience in performance improvement methodology
