The Neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) is an independent health care provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients/participants. The NNP is responsible for performing many patient-oriented tasks such as interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, performing procedures, making diagnoses and collaborating on care plan, and prescribing appropriate treatments. The NNP educates patients/participants and/or their families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness. (Please consult Nurse Practitioner/Physician Written Agreement for specific skills and knowledge.)

In the Lead NNP/PA role, the senior NNP will also be responsible for designated administrative tasks involving NICU Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioners, to include but not limited to scheduling, orientation, organizing their training and support of evaluations, organizing various meetings, and communications with unit and Division leadership. Primary contact for staff level Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners when assistance is needed related to medical care of patients.

36 hours per week

Rotating Shift

Weekend Work Required

Education: Masters degree in nursing or closely related field required

Experience: Two (2) years of experience is required. Five (5) years is strongly preferred.

License/Certification: MD Nurse Practitioner License required. Certification in NRP and BLS is required.

Possible exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed
