What You'll Do

ABOUT THIS ROLE:The OperationsTeam Lead is responsible forleading and supporting the assigned team, ensuring standard work and company safety and quality policies and procedures are being followed. The majority of the team lead's time will be on the production floor, providing first line support to problems and questions.The Team Lead reports to the Operations Manager/Supervisor and works under general supervision.The team lead will monitor performance towards Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) goals and work to maintain and improve performance through problem solving, training, and continuous improvement.Qualified candidates must know, or be able to learn, all job functions and provide fill-in work as necessary, up to 25% of the day.

This is a 2nd shift position in general production.


Responsibilities includes: Lean, Production Support, Quality, Planning & Organizing, Work Standards, Continuous Improvement, Managing Work and Area Maintenance


  • Use leader standard work (LSW) form daily to track completion of required job responsibilities, record problems and countermeasures, and make observations.

  • Maintain metrics and visual controls to monitor Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC).

  • Lead continuous improvement activities based on observations, employee suggestions, projects, and countermeasures to problems, in order to eliminate waste and improve flow.

  • Prioritize and schedule production and customer service work through department.

  • Track adherence to build schedule and identify if, and why, any orders were not completed on-time.

  • Provide support and quick first response to problems and questions. Escalate to supervisor when needed.

  • Train employees on job functions and maintain cross training matrix.

  • Provide fill-in production work as needed.

  • Monitor adherence to work instructions and other standardized tasks regularly.

  • Monitor adherence to Precor quality standard and identify and record defects.

  • Perform root cause analysis of defects and schedule misses.

  • Document and process scrap material daily.

  • Establishing courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

  • Sets high standards of performance for self and others; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self-imposing standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed.

  • Originating action to improve existing conditions and processes; identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas, and implementing solutions.

  • Effectively managing one's time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

  • Maintain housekeeping and check that 5S tasks are completed.

  • Verify Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks are completed.

  • Performs basic preventive maintenance and minor machine repair and adjustments.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU SHOULD HAVE:


  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Higher Education a plus

  • Minimum 3years manufacturing experience

  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred

  • Welding experience/knowledge a plus

  • Capable of learning and performing all department jobs at standard rate.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to interact with employees of all positions and speak in front of and groups of people.

  • Ability to learn and use tools such as 5-why-analysis, 5S, work instructions, TAKT time, as well as other applicable lean principles.

  • Ability to recognize and set priorities regarding manpower and production schedule.

  • Self-motivated and proactively strive to eliminate waste and improve flow.

  • Demonstrated positive performance and attendance record.

  • Ability to train employees in proper operation and quality standards.

Other Information:

  • WORK HOURS: Employee will work a four (4) day - ten (10) hour workweek.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors in a heated modern factory space. Ambient working temperature may range from 55 F - 100 F, depending on season. Work area is clean and free from wet, slippery conditions. Employee required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and gloves.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS: Potential hazards may include working with moving parts (machines guarded per OSHA rules), nip points, material handling, sharp edges on stock, flying particles, nuisance dust, lifting, and moderate noise exposure (70-90 db, hearing protection provided).
