Summary:

Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Equipment Automation provides engineering support for moderate to complex high-speed automated equipment which are primarily used in Contract Manufacturers' clean room facilities. Support includes equipment sustaining and process improvement activities for existing equipment, as well as preparation of specification, planning, designing, testing, installation and validation of new or upgraded equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Review, track, and analyze contract manufacturer's production and equipment daily reports. Prepare and distribute daily summary report to management.

  • Actively work with Contract manufactures to investigate and find solutions to production challenges involving component, product, equipment or process in order to improve OEE.

  • Plan, design, develop and execute equipment improvement projects including all necessary documentation under general guidance of Senior engineers or engineering manager.

  • Under general guidance of Sr. Staff or engineering manager, manage projects and coordinate activities with cross functional teams to ensure successful and on time completion of projects.

  • Design, develop, and implement processes, mechanical tests, and fixtures for assembly, assembly equipment, and inspections to improve product quality, increase productivity or reduce costs.

  • Review and approve equipment acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) and reports for all new or modified production equipment. Assist in protocol execution.

  • Support development and/ or review of SOPs for new equipment and processes.

  • Design, develop, test automation concepts to drive next generation automated equipment, including gathering and authoring of user requirements.

  • Develop test plans, protocols, and reports to ensure designs meet product and part specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable standards for new equipment and processes.

  • Develop and maintain project timelines under guidance of engineering & leadership. Provide updates and feedback to project leadership.

  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews.

  • Accomplish tasks while conforming to the company quality system procedures.

  • May be assigned other duties by department manager as necessary.

Required Qualifications:


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, preferably mechanical engineering, and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience, or Master's degree and 0-2 years' equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.

  • Working knowledge of statistical tools, project management software, and Microsoft office.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and personal interaction skills for interfacing with peers in other departments, and management.

  • Self-motivated and self-managed with a high degree of analytical ability and intellectual curiosity.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with company interdepartmental teams including Regulatory, Quality Assurance, R&D and Process Engineering.

  • Ability to remain adaptable and flexible in a changing environment. Able to complete assigned task(s) working both independently and as a team member.

  • Detail oriented and organized.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working as a mechanical equipment design engineer, or an equipment production/manufacturing engineer responsible for high speed, precision automated equipment.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry and working knowledge of GMP.

Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributors

Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation.

  • Possesses a high level of theoretical knowledge. Ability to deliver technical ideas that have an impact on the objectives. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies aligned to the technical and business goals.

Scope:

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency. Works on moderately complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interprets data and draws conclusions regarding results used in presented material.

Judgement:


  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience or Master's degree and 0-2 years' equivalent experience.

Workplace Type:
  • The Workplace Type for this role is Assigned Desk. Based on the nature of your role you will have an assigned desk or office located at a Dexcom site and should plan to be onsite approximately 4-5 days per week.
