Summary:

Dexcom is recruiting a seasoned leader of mobile application engineering to lead development of our next generation mobile applications that daily transform the lives of patients and their family members. This leadership role within Dexcom R&D will drive increases in quality and accessibility of Dexcom's current market leading CGM-centric application solutions. The portfolio of products reduces the burden of managing diabetes, facilitates clinician workflows to optimize clinical care, and ultimately delights all our customers across core and new markets. The Director of SW Development of Next Generation Mobile Apps embraces Agile practices as a development philosophy to guide day-to-day development, root out development inefficiencies, and establish a culture of learning, iteration, and automation. This role leads multiple developer teams on high-impact, high-velocity projects, while guiding the teams towards shared team culture, and building and optimizing stakeholder support. This role collaborates with software engineering leaders at multiple levels to ensure the collective team makes the best technical, product and people decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversee all software development for a segment of Dexcom's mobile and web software products.

  • Delight the customer and build brand advocates through diabetes industry-leading software.

  • Work directly with internal partners and customers of varying types to understand their needs and bring the voice-of-customer closer to engineering.

  • Guide software and partner teams in Agile, troubleshoot adoption efforts, and guide continuous learning and iteration.

  • Ensure team-wide standards in development practices, processes, cultural rituals

  • Bring excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity.

  • Use data to inform decisions about products, technology, and teams.

  • Have a collaborative style and lots of experience working with Product Marketing Managers, UX and Product Owners to deliver on complex, multi-year roadmaps, with frequent releases.

  • Build a high-performance engineering culture including hiring top technical talent.

  • Drive elimination of inefficiencies in coding process, while ensuring a quality-first mentality across engineering teams.

  • Ensure the Dexcom medical device software product portfolio meets and surpasses all regulatory, compliance, security, and privacy policy requirements.

  • Drive a One Team approach with key enabling functions like Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing.

  • Promote contemporary cutting-edge software architectures leveraging best-in-class software tooling, SDKs, etc.

  • Drive into the developer teams a culture of software innovation excellence.

  • Support the execution of the company's technology strategy, in line with our architecture and design principles.

  • Own organization and staffing for a segment of application engineering resources. Recruit and retain high-caliber software talent.

  • Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities

  • Manage budget and report on expenditure.

Required Qualifications:


  • Track record of delivering on strategic & technical goals, including driving technical strategy via a strong technical leadership team.

  • 9+ years proven experience as a Software Manager or similar role.

  • Experience as a champion of Agile Software Development philosophies and successfully operating in Agile-led software development processes.

  • Experienced communicator/presenter of technical information with a quality focus to internal as well as external partners.

  • Familiarity using relevant, modern, software test tools and equipment.

  • Understanding of Android and iOS app development.

  • Understanding of cloud based client/server backend mobile apps and systems development.

  • Understanding of Mobile App Architecture.

  • Understanding of Cloud Architecture.

  • Programming Languages exposure, with hands-on-keyboard direct experience: Swift, Kotlin, Objective C, Java, C, maybe others.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working with Apps that support physical products, systems.

  • Demonstrated Class I, Class II and Class III medical device submission experience related to diabetes.

  • Demonstrated successful track record of building & deploying software for complex life science and/or medical instrumentation systems.

  • Knowledge of or experience with public/private cloud services and environment.

Functional Description: Management

Directs the activities of a software applications development function for software application enhancements and new products. This position oversees the analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of computer programs for commercial or end user applications. Analyzes and investigates applications engineering tasks and prepares design specifications, analysis, and recommendations. Interacts with project managers, marketing, sales, and users to define application requirements and/or necessary modifications.

  • Reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.

  • Provides high-level guidance and support to employees and other managers.

  • Regularly interacts with executives and/or external parties on matters effecting the function.

  • Oversees policies and procedures for immediate function.

  • Works on abstract issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company.

  • Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.

  • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional or company operations.

Management:


  • Able to operate in complex global environment.

  • Manages the activities of a functional area and/or external service providers.

  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Experience and Education Requirements:


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of industry experience.

  • 9+ years of successful management experience in relevant industry.


Workplace Type:
  • The Workplace Type for this role is Assigned Desk. Based on the nature of your role you will have an assigned desk or office located at a Dexcom site and should plan to be onsite approximately 4-5 days per week.
