Job Description:

The Director of Retirement Marketing Strategy will help drive and support the growth of the Retirement Plans organization, including the support of emerging institutional opportunities. S/he will be responsible for supporting the larger growth, outsourcing, and institutional initiatives on the retirement plans roadmap and leading the marketing strategy for innovative programs and thought leadership, with a primary focus on defining and refining a more formalized omni-channel 'center of sales influence' strategy that builds loyalty, deepens engagement and supports greater sales productivity.

This position will report to the Head of Retirement Plans Marketing.

Success in this role will require:


  • Deep understanding of the retirement business and/or financial services

  • Ability to think both strategically and creatively, and with executional precision

  • Omni-channel mindset to help measurably influence and track behavior through a combination of print, digital, media channels, social, and in-person capabilities

  • Passion, prior experience, and appetite to drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Effective project management and planning proficiency, with great forethought and attention to detail

  • Strong business acumen, communication, influencing, and consultative abilities given interaction with all levels of business stakeholders and C-suite leaders, including external business partners

The Director of Retirement Marketing Strategy assumes responsibility for the strategic and tactical support, including the implementation, of higher-profile marketing and thought leadership programs. The role will be closely tied to efforts and initiatives aimed at supporting stronger advisor engagement, sales and retention results.

The ideal candidate has at least 7-10 years of recent retirement plans or financial service experience working with the various distribution partners and systems, decision makers, and/or investors. Roles


  • Support or lead marketing efforts to ensure our narrative and positioning is compelling, differentiated, and targeted to multiple sales centers of influence, to include financial intermediaries and advisors, third party administrators, broker-dealer and institutional partners, and other sales outlets.

  • Develop go-to-market strategies in support of product development efforts and/or marketing campaigns for top tier distribution channels and existing institutional partners, including thoughtful ways to generate leads, and influence sales and purchasing behavior.

  • Collaborate with product managers, distribution partners, and other marketing centers of excellence teams (agency, digital, analytics, and brand teams) to elevate the brand in meaningful ways that deliver measurable business value with financial advisors.

  • Develop advisor engagement index

  • Leverage, create and/or share actionable market and consumer insights with appropriate cross functional teams in support of differentiating practice management concepts, sales priorities, product development and marketing programs.

  • Develop and maintain Retirement Plans business analytics dashboard that consolidates key performance indicators and results for select marketing programs and social media events.

  • Exceptionally strong oral and written communications required; PowerPoint proficiency a plus

  • Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned

Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements


  • BS Degree in Marketing or related field or work equivalent required

  • Strong background in marketing: a minimum of 7-10 years' experience, with a minimum of 5 years in financial services, ideally with a strong concentration in retirement products and services

  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically in consideration of a multi-faceted distribution model, with a proactive mindset and strong sense of urgency.

  • Strong communications and presentation skills - dynamic, creative, persuasive and succinct

  • Strong business sense and attention to detail particularly regarding program logistics and budget considerations

  • Ability to set marketing agendas consistent with company growth objectives

  • Ability to work within a team effectively; willingness to partner and develop strong relationships with other disciplines within the company with a goal of creating integrated, comprehensive programs

  • Wide range of expertise regarding industry and competitive landscape, regulatory environment, client interaction, marketing programs, tools and media as well as appropriate cost and delivery methods

  • Delivery of strategic plan consistent with Ascensus' I-Client philosophy
