Job Description

The Patient Account coordinator is accountable for the Patient Accounting activities including oversight of daily operation of Commercial Billing, Government Billing, performs Follow-up on all types and ages of accounts. Makes out bound collection calls on self-pay accounts, investigates workers compensation accounts, follow up on broken payment plan accounts, Research Cash application, customer service, Charity Care and Financial Assistance with Patient and Family Interviews and discussions. Ensure Hospital is compliant with Financial Assistance publications. Identifies and resolves issues. Works with the appropriate department when identifying errors or issues. Provides formal education assigned area. Assists in reducing work queues appropriate to the area assigned. Uses department information systems effectively and efficiently. Assists in the implementation of new or upgraded Patient Financial Services software. Follows internal/external regulatory and compliance guidelines. Ensures that all billing is done accurately and timely to not have a negative impact on Accounts Receivable. Provides excellent customer service to our patients.

This position provides specialized technical knowledge and support to management, supervisors and staff in order to successfully meet goals related to the revenue cycle at El Camino Hospital

Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum 5 years of related experience in a healthcare organization.
3. Ability to understand and resolve complex billing situations
4. Working knowledge of Medicare, MediCal, PPO/HMO and other government agencies
5. Minimum (3) years' experience with hospital computer systems
6. Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills
