Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer (CDEIO) is MFS' executive level diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) strategist. The CDEIO provides enterprise, strategic and programmatic leadership globally for DE&I initiatives and ensures alignment with MFS' purpose of creating value responsibly and sustainably. The CDEIO is responsible for defining, implementing, and executing on a platform for DE&I which supports talent, culture and community within MFS, and also aligns with the external community, consisting of clients, peers in the industry, and the places in which MFS works and lives. The CDEIO will engage multiple stakeholders across MFS to promote and drive a culture of inclusion where individuals of all identities and backgrounds can thrive, grow and be successful.

Key responsibilities


  • Serve as a member of the Management Committee and partners with the CEO and executive team and drive innovative strategies that will integrate DE&I into the business and culture of MFS. Actively oversee, support, and align business driven DE&I programs and activities across MFS' global platform. Champion continuous improvement and alignment with MFS' corporate purpose and foster an environment of accountability through clear goal setting and results measurement.


  • Work closely with HR leadership and all Business Unit leaders to integrate DE&I into all people activities and programs. Consult on the design, implementation and facilitation of DE&I education and training programs, talent acquisition initiatives, and performance assessment efforts that support development opportunities and reduces inherent bias. Challenge existing programs and total reward practices to ensure an inclusive and equitable employee experience.


  • Use data and supporting analytic tools to define and prioritize the strategy, inform decisions, and measure results. Lead benchmarking analysis to make recommendations on trends in both the industry and the community. Ensure appropriate use of information both internally and externally; appropriately balance the need for transparency and privacy.


  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for corporate DE&I activities and related operational frameworks including the Diversity Council, Employee Resource Groups, and business unit/regional DE&I action teams.


  • Lead cultural change and promote MFS' commitment to a culture of DE&I through interaction with employees at all levels of the organization. Use feedback to develop strategies for improvement and provide leadership to address challenges and remove obstacles.


  • Manage and maximize the effectiveness of expense and headcount budgets. Identify resource needs and develop efficient proposals to meet goals. Direct and oversee the work and activities of department staff.


  • Form and cultivate strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations outside of MFS to help further MFS' DE&I agenda. Represent MFS at industry DE&I and corporate citizenship events and plan and host internal and public DE&I events.


  • Drive the MFS brand through engagement and thought leadership with clients, industry groups and external audiences. Consult with Marketing and Distribution on ensuring DE&I approaches to sales engagements/opportunities and developing regular and consistent internal communication strategies and content management on the websites and social media.


  • If needed, provide direct management of MFS' Corporate Citizenship Activities. Oversee and guide the Corporate Citizenship Committee in the Boston office as well as the regional sub committees. Represent MFS and contribute through participation and knowledge of community service activities. Manage partner relationships and corporate giving budgets.


  • Perform other duties as requested.


Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience progressing the DE&I agenda, through a mix of DE&I, business, and broader HR leadership credentials. Demonstrated leadership either in a DE&I function or core DE&I initiative. They will bringa global mindset with strong experience in diversity and inclusion topics. They will also have strong influencing skills and will deliver on the operational side. This includes:


  • Bringing passion to diversity, equity and inclusion


  • Addressing the impact of external social events in the workplace


  • Experience driving organizational effectiveness and/or culture change through DE&I initiatives


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience building and implementing a DE&I strategy at a global scale


  • Experience in Asset Management or Broader Financial Services


  • Background in HR/Talent/Leadership & Development



  • Experience leading teams that represent and/or support a global employee base
