Summary:
The Trauma Registrar Tier 2 works collaboratively with all members of the trauma team and reports to the Trauma Program Manager. The trauma registry team employs multiple data validation processes to ensure high-quality data entry and trauma registry data is used for performance improvement, outreach, education, and research. Utilizes basic principle for identifying data and ensuring complete and accurate data entry; identifies reportable cases, review and abstracts information from the medical record and enters medical information into the trauma registry database. This position is responsible for the overall functioning of the trauma registry, training, coordination of data collection, querying and reporting of the data in the trauma registry. The Trauma Registrar Tier 2 supports the Trauma Program by maintaining the trauma registry and its users by using clinical and financial database tools to identify and analyze for data and process improvements. This position coordinates with hospital departments as needed to maintain adherence to documentation of inclusion criteria and provides education as needed. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops, establish professional networks and participating in professional societies at regional, state, and national level. Responsibilities:
Assists in providing data from the trauma registry system in order to compile reports and statistical information for monthly meetings, research, injury prevention and outreach and trauma education. Participates in continuing education opportunities with a focus on trauma, trauma systems, coding and/or data entry. Participates and manages multiple projects simultaneously, research and compiles supporting materials for projects. Adaptable to varied workloads and project deadlines. Demonstrate customer service; serve as a role model and teacher. Contribute to the department and organization's strategic goal. Delegate tasks, reports, or work assignments to registry staff. Ensure accuracy in the registry by doing data cleaning, reporting for missing data and making the most complete patient records possible. Maintain confidentiality under the guidelines of HIPAA, ensure compliance for the trauma database information. Performs diverse duties requiring knowledge of IRB regulations including maintenance of accurate and timely documentation. Coordinates and initiate reports documenting the Trauma Registry calendar activities: Assist in process improvement issues. Completes the quarterly trauma audit filter analysis for presentation at the Trauma Committee meeting. Prepares the required data reports for monthly meetings/quarterly reports. Attends the weekly trauma conference to document the discussion of issues identified in the patient review and completes the required reports/letters needed for problem resolution. Data validation to meet ACS requirements. Timely submission for state and national databases (MTQIP and Adult and Peds TQIP) Annual update for data dictionaries provided to trauma staff. Assists the Trauma Medical Director and TPM in identification of problem trends, assists with the analysis of relevant data and is responsible for completing the required activities for resolution. Analyzes outliers of the trauma registry indicators and reports results to the Trauma Program Medical Director and TPM. Completes all required statistical reports needed for the Trauma Program Annual Report. Maintains up-to-date files of reports and review needed for Trauma Center verification. Designates the appropriate Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) score, Injury Severity Score (ISS), and ICD-10 code for injuries, procedures, and complications for inclusion into the Trauma Registry. Respond to data requests for information from internal and external sources after approval of Trauma Program Manager. Weekly trauma registry productivity status update with manager. Works collaboratively with the Covenant IRB Specialist to achieve compliance with Covenant's research policies in the development of trauma research initiatives. Prepares and maintains documentation of all trauma research. Demonstrates excellent customer service in all contacts with internal and external customers. Participate in forming and implementing plans to improve systems. Participates in weekly chart reviews with trauma team. Other duties as assigned.

Other information:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in related field required. Certification by the American Trauma Society as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) or Certified Abbreviates Scale Specialist (CAISS) required. Trauma Registry Course (ATS basic or advanced) required. Minimum 4 years Trauma database experience required. Experience using computer software program for data handling required. Experience in performance improvement/research project preferred. Complete 8 hours of continuing education (CEU's) annually to adhere to the Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) requirements. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledgeable in performance improvement/trauma registry methodology, case abstracting and able to format and interpret statistical trauma reports. Previous training experience and training of software systems to users. Experience and demonstrated proficiency in ICD E-coding/Procedure coding, AIS/ISS coding/scoring, trauma database (TraumaBase preferred). Experience with Trauma Billing. Excellent communication skills. Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Computer software program for data handling. Proficient with a variety of other computer software products (i.e., MS Office-excel, PPT, with accomplished typing and/or data entry skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm professional demeanor in critical situations. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision and depth perception. Frequent lifting 0-25 lbs. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, visual accommodation, color vision and field of vision. Occasional lifting up to 26-100 lbs.
