We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our engineering office in Chanhassen, MN! In this role, you will direct and coordinate activities of our software engineering teams who develop our popular flyGarmin.com website and Garmin Pilot mobile applications. Other essential functions include:
Provide leadership and direct the activities of multiple software engineering teams focused on design of new products, enhancement of existing designs and improvement of software development processes and procedures
Coordinate and participate in generating software requirements and designs including product operation and interface specifications in accordance with GARMIN’s software development methodology
Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market requirements to plan projects
Track product software development to be certain project milestones are met
Plan resource requirements, participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance
Build healthy relationships within and across teams
Promote sharing of software technologies and designs across multiple product platforms
Coordinate personnel issues associated with the teams including annual performance appraisals
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Conduct annual performance evaluations
Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of Science Degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering from a four-year college or university and must possess a minimum of 3 years experience as a Garmin Software Engineering Team Leader or 5 years related experience as a Engineering Team Leader/Manager performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description. Other requirements include:
Excellent academics (cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA as a general rule)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage technical human resources
Proficient knowledge of Garmin’s overall product line and customers
Detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in C or C++
Knowledge of micro controller architecture and Assembly language
Detailed knowledge of Garmin’s software development methodology
Other education and/or experience as required for the specific projects or products he/she will develop
