Overview:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in Cryogenic Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cryo-TEM), who will focus on the development and implementation of advanced Cryo-TEM techniques to study materials for rare-earth element separations. This position resides in the Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) Group in the Nanomaterials Characterization Section, Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As part of our research team, you will conduct TEM experiments with samples under cryogenic environment at the nanometer scale. You will work with the protocols to prepare samples for the cryo-TEM experiments. Additionally, you will develop new analytical methods and work closely with team members who specialize in synthesis, theory, X-ray and neutron scattering, and electron microscopy. A successful candidate should have a strong demonstrated background in Cryo-TEM. Previous experience with cryo-TEM sample preparation and STEM is a plus.

Postdocs: Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.

Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
